Ardrossan Cruise to 8-Wicket Victory Over Woodfarm in Rapid Run Chase
Memorial Field / Main – Ardrossan secured a dominant 8-wicket win against Woodfarm in Championship 3 action on Saturday, wrapping up the match inside just 40 overs of total play. The weather was touch and go first thing with some scattered showers, making for a tense morning, but the skies eventually cleared to set the stage for a convincing home victory.
First Innings: Woodfarm Suffer Spectacular Collapse
With the morning moisture around, Ardrossan captain George Dees won what proved to be a crucial toss and elected to bowl. The decision paid off immediately as Woodfarm’s top order struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Ardrossan attack.
Aside from a stubborn 54-ball 17 from Izaan Jawad and a patient 28 off 64 balls from Shahzain Hussain, the Woodfarm batters had no answers. In fact, "Extras" top-scored for the innings with 35 (including 33 wides).
Woodfarm seemed to be grinding towards a somewhat defensible total at 89 for 4, but the departure of Jawad triggered a catastrophic lower-order collapse. They lost their final six wickets for just 6 runs, tumbling from 89/4 to 95 all out in 30.2 overs.
Ardrossan Bowling Highlights:
Lovedeep Singh: 8 overs, 2 maidens, 4 wickets for just 9 runs (Econ 1.12). A truly masterful spell that broke the back of the Woodfarm lineup.
Rajveer Singh Dhillon: 5.2 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets for 14 runs. An exceptional debut performance for the club after transferring from Irvine just this past week, cleaning up the tail with precision.
Aditya Bajekal: 1 over, 1 wicket for 2 runs. A massive congratulations is in order as Aditya secured his first-ever wicket!
George Dees: Chipped in with a wicket of his own to support the attack.
Second Innings: Ardrossan Make Short Work of the Target
Following the lunch break, the weather brightened up beautifully into a sunny afternoon, mirroring the mood of the home side. Chasing a modest 96 for victory, Ardrossan experienced a brief stutter early on. Vice-captain Ryan Rogers (5) and Sandeep Dhaliwal (0) both fell to a "Private Player" within the first three overs, leaving the hosts slightly unsteady at 14/2.
However, that was the end of Woodfarm's success. Chris Mullan and debutant Deepak Kumar—also a fresh arrival from Irvine last week—combined for a brutal, unbroken 83-run partnership that completely took the game away from the visitors. Striking at a massive 141.93, Mullan blasted 44 not out off just 31 deliveries, launching four massive sixes and three boundaries. Kumar announced his arrival at the club in style, proving equally destructive to finish 30 not out off 21 balls, clearing the ropes three times himself.
Ardrossan reached the target of 97 in a mere 9.4 overs, scoring at over 10 runs an over to seal a comprehensive 8-wicket victory.
