End of Season Awards!

Ardingly FC recently held their end of season award night, and despite some uninformed heckling from some Wiltshire backbenchers, the deserved winners were named on the night.

Players’ Player of the Year went to James Whatman, presumably because he could score goals, as he also comfortably took home the Top Goalscorer award. He’s also the only man in Sunday league football that does a 10k race before a match, but it doesn’t stop him running more than the rest of the team during the game.

Manager’s Player of the Year unsurprisingly went to the player that the manager spent all season praising, and was deservedly won by Sam Foot. Turns out he’s also better at table football than he is at actual football.

This capped off the first season back for one of Mid Sussex’s newest Sunday league sides.

2025/26 Cup Review!

Our league progress was largely thwarted by some impressive cup runs, leading to a hectic schedule towards the end of the season.

The highlight of an unpredictable season was a stunning run to the Sussex Sunday Challenge Trophy final, where three Division 2 (3 leagues above us) teams were toppled en route.

The first of these involved coming from 4-2 down to equalise in the last minute, before a 4-2 win on penalties. This was followed up with another comeback win, coming from 2-0 behind to once again bring the game to penalties, which this time went to sudden death in a 5-4 win.

After the sensational quarter final win, we had to wait over two months for the semi final, and thanks to some misinformed paperwork by our opponents, we managed to reach the final.

This proved a step too far as we were beaten 1-0 by our well organised opponents (who went on to take the Division 2 title).

The 5 Ardingly fans that traveled the long 30 miles drive to Lancing were unperturbed by the £6 entry fee and cheered us on to the bitter end, with a free kick well saved in the last minute that nearly took the game to penalties.

Other notable cup moments included a convincing 4-1 win against Tally Ho Reserves the morning after our Christmas night out, and losing on penalties after a 3-3 draw with Hampden Park, which ended up being their only win of the season (we were feeling charitable).

One particularly cup game we ended the game with only 10 players due to our centre back taking out his frustrations on the linesman, who also happened to be our captain. We would love to say he learned from this experience but that would be a lie.

2025/26 League Review!

Ardingly FC’s first season back after reforming ended up with a respectable 6th place finish in the league.

Highlights (lowlights?) included going 1-0 up within 10 seconds of our opening game (and going on to lose 7-2), scoring a last minute winner against Knollenton Oak and having to play them again 5 minutes later (we lost that time) and ending our 4 month exile from our home ground due to a waterlogged pitch with a 2-0 win (only had 10 players and our manager kept a clean sheet).

We also had two wins wiped from the history books due to league restructuring but we’re not bitter about it.

Cup review to follow (spoiler, we didn’t win anything but did alright in one of them).

Sunday 11-a-side team needing players!

Ardingly Football Club are off the back of their first season after reforming in 2025, with a mid table finish in the SSFL Sussex Sunday Football League Div 5, with the highlight being a run to the Sussex Sunday Challenge Trophy final, narrowing losing 1-0 to the champions of SSFL Div 2.

They are on the look out for some new players ahead of the new season, so if you are interested please get in touch! Home games are played at Ardingly Recreation Ground in West Sussex, with friendlies expected over the summer before the season starts again in September.
