Morning all!
Happy (and soggy 🤷♀️🙄) Thursday! Ergh that weather out there huh?🥶
Sooooo as promised - here’s the low down on the Born to Move 8-12yrs classes!
Those that are familiar with the Les Mills group exercise classes will know that they follow a certain format. BodyPump for example is squats, then chest, lunges, shoulders and a whole lot of soreness 😂!
They’re very structured - you move to the beat of the music to get your reps in.
“Born to Move” is similar for the older kids age group, but with a few differences!
Firstly - it’s a mix of all different ways of working out! We dance, learn martial arts, some boxing, core and yoga all in one. ⭐️
Secondly - it’s set at a less intense pace than the adult classes - the choreography is simpler, making it easier to pick up, and kids learn quickly how to move with the beat of the music.
What makes “Born to Move” ideal for that age range is that it focuses very much on creativity and expression - it’s their choice to bring their own moves into the dance tracks, and it’s their choice as to what tracks we do and which ones they want to maybe take a rest on.
Respect for each other and motivation through encouragement is a fundamental of what we do in class, and my job is to work alongside them and support this, while building their confidence.
Thirdly - we don’t just follow a set list of tracks. Some weeks will be more martial art focussed, some weeks dance focused….and we always play at least one game in a class! Tag, circuits, relays…..even ones that they suggest!
Lastly - “Born to Move” classes keeps kids active not only physically, but also mentally. I always start by checking in with everyone, finding out what their weeks been like.
We also learn a little bit about how the brain and body works! - for example, last week we learned about neurons and how they help us move. 😊
My classes are there for whatever the kids need - from physical activity, to just someone who they can talk to. ❤️
Hope this all helps! I know it’s a lot!
Please please message if there’s anything I can help with in regards to the classes, or with health and fitness in general.
Have a great week! ❤️
