Annan Academy News

Annan Academy News Annan Academy is a 6 year comprehensive Secondary school based in the south west of Scotland. It has a role of approximately 950 pupils.

Annan has nine cluster primary schools which are; Carrutherstown, Cummertrees, Eastriggs, Elmvale, Gretna; Hecklegirth; Newington, Springfield and St Columbus. Visitors to the Academy will notice that while most of the school buildings are modern, there is a part which dates back further. The old building incorporating the bell-tower dates back over a century to 1895. This is a constant reminder o

f the school's history and its origins. Recent refurbishment has created an enhanced learning environment for staff and pupils. A leading example of this is the new Performing Arts building situated towards the rear of the school. At Annan Academy we have a hardworking, dedicated and passionate staff who deliver the curriculum in an innovative and engaging manner. In order for this to be achieved pupils at Annan Academy are expected to give their best in all facets of their education. The school has a uniform policy which all pupils must adhere to; shirt, tie, black trousers/skirt/dress, black footwear. As a school we offer a vibrant extra-curricular programme to all pupils providing them with the necessary skills to be successful in their chosen career path. Highlights of this include a number of educationally relevant excursions, the opportunity to be involved in a variety of sporting teams and the production of junior and senior shows. Annan Academy is also working towards the LGBT Schools Charter. We committed to this programme in Autumn 2018. The programme has been developed to support schools to undertake training and review policies, practice and resources to make sure that Annan Academy meeting legislative needs and is as inclusive as we can be. We look forward to involving community partners, parents and pupils, both past and present in the achievements and successes of our young people.

D&G U15 Girls Super Soccer Sevens Runners Up 🏆🥈

Yesterday, our U15 girls football team competed in the D&G Super Soccer Sevens tournament at Dalbeattie High School. With 8 teams involved and 7 games to play, the girls excelled in warm conditions and produced fantastic performances that they should all be very proud of, individually and as a team. As a result of their efforts, they impressively won 5 games, drew 1 & lost 1, meaning that they finished runners up in the tournament!!!🏆

This achievement is made even more special as it is the first ever girls football trophy won by Annan Academy, and is a true testament to the hard work, commitment, and talent of all girls involved throughout the school year. Well done everyone!!!💛

We are excited to be launching monthly wellbeing challenges for pupils at Annan Academy.

Over the next 6 months, and hopefully throughout the next school year, pupils will have the opportunity to take part in different wellbeing focused challenges designed to encourage positive habits, confidence, creativity, self care, staying active, and taking time to look after their mental wellbeing.

Each month there will be a new challenge and pupils can enter by submitting a photo of themselves taking part.

There will also be prizes up for grabs each month including:
• Nando’s vouchers
• cinema vouchers
• headphones
• sweets and treats
• squishy toys
• self care and wellbeing prizes
and more.

June’s challenge is “Wellbeing in Action”.

Pupils are asked to submit a photo of themselves doing something positive for their wellbeing. This could include:
• going for a walk
• exercising
• reading
• doing something creative
• spending time outdoors
• relaxing
• spending time with friends or family
or anything else that helps them feel good.

This month’s prize is a Lush workshop voucher for you and 3 friends. Thank you to Lush in Carlisle for donating this amazing prize.

As a Rights Respecting School, this links to Article 24 of the UNCRC, every child has the right to the best possible health, including mental health and wellbeing.

Annan Academy Me and My Girl 2026- Official Apology
We would like to apologise...

It has come to our attention that literally hundreds of people have left performances of Me and My Girl with sore cheeks from smiling and laughing caused by rip-roaring singing and hilarious jokes. We would like to apologise for this as we knew in advance that this would happen. We have also received complaints that songs have been too toe tapping and uplifting leaving people singing, whistling and humming songs all week. We are sorry!

We would also like to apologise that tonight is our final show leaving you only 1 more chance to see this magnificent production. We realise many of you were planning to "get round to booking" at some point and have now been forced into a last-minute decision. Sorry!

Finally we would like to apologise for keeping ticket prices so bally affordable in a difficult economic climate. Prices this low for a show of this standard must feel suspicious. Our bad!
To everyone who has supported us so far – thank you. To everyone who hasn't seen it yet – this is your last chance.
