Annalong bowling club IBA cup match at home to Warrenpoint.
After a wet few days the sun finally made an appearance as Annalong bowling club played host to Warrenpoint. All the home rinks got of to a good start with some toing and frowing here and there except for rink 3 of Liz Ron Pearl and Joey who commanded a strong lead all the way to finish 18 up. Rink 4 of John mc Canless Ian W***y John and Jim had a good lead at the start but then the point came back well and went ahead, not to be done out the home side won all but 1 of the last 4 ends and took the lead back to finish 2 up. Rink 1 of Patricia Anne Jennifer and Jim also had a good game with a 14 shot win.
On the second rink was Roy wilfie Henry and James w who temporarily fell behind but quickly got ahead again to finish 7 up, so all in all a good day at the races for annalong finishing 41 up overall. Fortunately for Annalong they are home again in the next round to culrathian (Coleraine)which saves a long trip if it had of been an away draw.

Annalong bowling club NIBA Match away to white head Saturday 13th June.
Annalong made the long trip to whitehead with no great success against the hosts who haven’t lost any matches in the first half of the season. 3 of the Annalong rinks all had a bad start in the opening ends except for the mc Connell rink who kinda held their own for the first half. Then the other Annalong rinks started to pull up and even went in front at times until at the 18 th end they were only 3 shots behind on the overall with 2 rinks up and 2 just down by a shot or two, but the last 3 ends for the visitors proved disastrous dropping a total of 20 shots which left them going home with nothing other than a 7-0 defeat.
Annalong have a cup match away to whitehead again next week and would need to sharpen every pencil they have to have any chance of staying in the running for the cup

Annalong bowling club IBA cup match at home to Dromore.
This was another hard fought match, one in which we were sure it would be a wet gear job. However
the rain cleared just in time and thankfully the green hadn’t flooded after the rain from early morning letting us get the match played with sunny intervals.
This was a great match played in great spirit and at the halfway stage the visitors were 3 up. At 18 ends Annalong had went ahead by 3 on 71-68 then at 20 ends Annalong were only 2 ahead. It was all very tense again as the last end was played out with two of the home rinks dropping a shot each and the other two rinks picked up a 1 and a 3 to leave Annalong winning by 4 shots overall, a good win against tuff opponents

Annalong bowling club Niba league match away to northdown.
This match was postponed a couple of times but we finally got it played on Tuesday the 2nd. The forecast wasn’t great but we took the chance and made the journey and thankfully we got it played in the dry.
On the first rink for annalong was

This rink was very heavy and hadn’t a true line on it and it was a case of first in which proved not to be the annalong side who struggled all the way and finished 10 down on 17-7

James newell had a much better game and commanded the lead and then some all the way through to finish 15up on 4-19.

Again this rink had a good game although it was neck in neck the first half they pulled ahead enough to give annalong hope of the overall and went into the last end only 1 down in spite of the bad score from the first two rinks, so you can imagine it was a tense last few bowls for both sides as the leads didn’t manage to get anything close it was onto the seconds. Northdowns second rolled one up just six inches from the jack then annalongs Anne not bowing to the pressure landed her bowl inside of northdowns to leave the visitors all square as it stood. Then came the 3rds but no change on the head now it was the big guns. After the northdown skip was unable to push Anne’s bowl out it was all down to Jim for a win who came up on a perfect line but unfortunately stopped just 2 inches short to clinch the win resulting in a draw on 59 shots each and 2 points each. A good result nonetheless as it is a hard green to get points on, well done to all who took the time to travel and get the game played at last

Started ok for the first 6 ends at 4-5 down then the visitors kinda got away on them big time to finish 11-32 down

Had a mixed start but settled down into it and held the lead all the way through to finish 4 up on 17-13

This rink started well then the visitors caught up and went ahead about the halfway stage and then it was nip and tuck for a few ends until the 17th then the annalong side won 4 ends in a row to leave them going into the last end 5 up by this stage there was only 3 shots in the overall score but unfortunately Jim just caught the wrong side of the jack and give his opponents 5 shots to equalise the final score on 23 each

This rink secured two singles in the opening two ends but got badly stuck there for the next 6 ends before winning 4 consecutive ends to bring them within a shot at the halfway stage at 8-9 but then the home team just found another gear and only lost two singles in the last half to finish 19-11 up. Unfortunately the overall points were far gone from just being 3 down to finish 9 down on 70-79 so 2.5 to 4.5 points

Niba second round cup match away to Antrim lawn Wednesday 27 th may.
This was always going to be a tough ask on the artificial surface in Antrim,a venue that most visiting teams don’t have much success on. As you will see from the scores it proved a very hard win for the Annalong team who travelled the one and three quarter hours over the evening traffic.

Started well and got two on the first then lost two ones and a two but then they got tuned in and made steady progress all the way to finish 18-14 up 👏👏

What a game they had, after only 6 ends they 13-0 up before dropping a 3, not to be beturbed continued to build a big lead to finish 25-6 up
Rink 3 and 4 However struggled a bit with the artificial surface and when rink 4 consisting of Liz Charlton wilfie graham David and Joey chambers finished they were 15 shots down on a score of 25-10
That leaves us with rink 3 who after a lot of measuring were 3 ends behind the rest so at 15 ends rink 3 of Patricia Russell Anne mc Connell Jennifer mc Clure and jim mc Connell were sitting 7 shots down on a score of 18-11, so if you add that all up you can see this was getting down to the wire and the pressure was on rink 3 for both clubs to win the day. Score now 64-63 in annalongs favour who picked up a further 2 shots on the 16th end after Jennifer ditched the jack,the host team then got a single on the 17th leaving annalong 2 up going into the last end, after antrims third player had threw his second bowl they were lying the 2 they needed to force a tie break but Jennifer got her second bowl in for annalong to lie second shot, it was down to the skips, under a lot of pressure the both skips came up short to leave a win for the Annalong visitors on one shot. Well done to all for a good team performance 👏👏

Annalong bowling club NIBA match at home to b.e.t.s from Bangor.
Success at last for the Mourne club picking up a 6 point to 1 win.
On rink 1

This rink had a slow start and dropped a single in each of the first two ends but then they settled down into it and soon gain a lead by end 10 they secured 6 shots to go 14-4 up and kept building on that to the 19th end where they were 24-9 up then lost 5 shots on the last two ends to still finish well up on 24-14 👏👏

This rink got started well on the first five going 7-4 up but the visitors came back well, then it was kinda nip and tuck until the 14 th end where it was all square on 13 each then the bets team went ahead by 5 shots but the annalong rink wasn’t for lying down and won 8 on the last 3 ends giving them a win of 21-18 👏👏

This rink started very well and bolted ahead early and by the halfway stage were 13-2up, the visitors then got a 3 and over the remainder of the game got another 5 singles but the home squad held a good lead through out the game and finished 24-10 up 👏👏

This rink dropped a 2 on the first then got 2 back on the second but sadly dropped a 4 and a 1 then things went back to annalongs favour where they picked up 1 then 3 which brought them right back into it at 6-7, then the brakes went on a bit for the next few ends and by the halfway point were ten down on 6-16, the annalong rink came right back at them again to pull up 14-16, then the game swung back to the visitors who got a further 9 shots to annalongs 2 in the remaining ends and finished giving bets their only point of the day on a score of 16-25

Annalong bowling were away from home this week to lisnagarvey Lisburn for their second match of the season. Unfortunately like last week things didn’t go to plan.
Three of the annalong rinks started very well and by the twelfth end were 8 shots up on the overall, but host team fought back hard and to be honest the wheels came off the Annalong teams wagon and they ended up with only one point in rink two consisting of

Henry Madowell
James wilson and
James newell so well done to them.
Next Saturday 9th annalong are home to Bets from ward park Bangor

Congratulations to our Midweek Team who won their first match of the season tonight away to Clonallon by 5pts to 1pt.

Annalong bowling club started their season with a charity fund raising competition among their members. This year’s charity is air ambulance and all clubs in the NIBA will be raising money for this charity at some point throughout the season. Six rinks were formed and played three games of five ends to determine the winner, the top rink of the day went to Wendy Laffin John mc culla Ron hanna and W***y John Heaney. Thankfully the weather stayed dry though a bit chilly, after the games there was a nice afternoon tea of sandwiches and apple tart to get us all warmed up again.
The club would like to thank the new Barbican in Annalong for donating the lovely sandwiches and would also wish them every success in their fabulous state of the art shop.
£250 was raised so thank you to everyone who came along to support this very worthy charity .
