A day to forget for the club ☹️

The 1st team visited a very strong Sculcoates Amateurs AFC team who sit top of the league for a reason. We didn’t do ourselves justice but we were out classed on the day.

The development team bow out of the cup. They came across a strong physical York based team in Acomb. Wish them all the best for the next round.

Special mention the Liam Coops who stepped into ref after John Chalk called off sick. Thanks Liam.

Edgehill Development 2-2 Ryedale

A game that had absolutely everything… including THREE different Edgehill goalkeepers! 😂🧤

The Development lads battled hard to earn a deserved point, scoring late on to rescue a draw after twice going behind.

Ryedale broke the deadlock after 22 minutes when a long ball over the top caught us out, leaving their forward clean through to slot past the keeper.

Edgehill nearly hit back soon after when Baz Gill saw his effort from a corner cleared off the line.

Half time: Edgehill 0-1 Ryedale

The young Edgehill side came flying out in the second half, with Tyler Smith pulling the strings in midfield and Lee Cappleman Jnr causing plenty of problems up top.

And it was the energetic Bobbie Cappleman who got us back on level terms.

The young winger cut inside before unleashing an absolute thunderbolt from 25 yards, flying into the bottom corner. 🚀⚽️

WHAT. A. GOAL.

Just after the hour mark, Ryedale restored their lead — although the story behind it was very much an Edgehill Development special… 😂

With senior keeper Martin Cappleman suddenly needing an urgent toilet break 💩🚽, young Lee Cappleman stepped between the sticks.

Lee produced a superb save from the Ryedale attack, only for the rebound to fall kindly and be tapped home.

2-1 Ryedale.

With time running out, it looked like the lads were heading for a frustrating defeat.

But they weren’t finished yet.

With just two minutes of normal time remaining, Lee Cappleman did superbly to square the ball across the box, where Joseph Fergus somehow bundled it over the line in the 88th minute! 🔥

2-2!

And we nearly nicked all three points in stoppage time when Ralph Stubbings met the ball with a volley from the edge of the box, only to see it agonisingly flash wide.

FULL TIME: EDGEHILL DEVELOPMENT 2-2 RYEDALE

A deserved point after a battling performance from the young lads — and a match we’ll probably remember for the football, the late drama… and Martin’s perfectly timed toilet break! 😂💩

⭐️ MAN OF THE MATCH: BOBBIE CAPPLEMAN ⭐️

Non-stop running, constant energy and a fantastic goal. Fully deserved.

⚽️ MATCH REPORT
With most of the young lads having a great time at Leeds fest we had to field the oldest development team in history.

Fishburn Academy 0-4 Edgehill Development

A dominant performance from the Development lads as Edgehill ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against Fishburn Academy.

We dominated from the first whistle and created chance after chance. Bobbie Cappleman somehow managed to miss a couple of opportunities that looked easier to score, while Dad, Lee was unable to quite reach a dangerous Fergus cross.

Lee Cappleman then produced one of the misses of the season, putting the ball approximately 100 feet over the bar from just three yards out! 😂

Thankfully, we eventually found the breakthrough. Gary Hepples spotted the run and played a fantastic ball over the top for Fergus to run onto and calmly slot home. 1-0 Edgehill.

We continued to control the game, with chances coming thick and fast, and eventually got the fully deserved second. A dangerous set piece was met by Andy Noon, who powered a header home to make it 2-0. A real collectors item.

The second half started with Fishburn putting us under some pressure, but we showed our quality on the counter. Tom Scales broke through the defence and kept his composure to calmly finish and make it 3-0.

Just five minutes later, Fishburn were awarded a penalty with a chance to get themselves back into the game. Up stepped Martin Cappleman, who produced another brilliant save, diving low to his right to keep the clean sheet intact. 🧤

And, against the run of play once again, Scales found himself through on goal, showing great composure to slot home his second and put the game firmly to bed. 4-0. A couple of goals to add to his scrap book, Scales dedicated his goals to his wife Kelly ❤️

A thoroughly deserved win and another excellent performance from the old Development lads. 👏

🏆 MAN OF THE MATCH – Jamie Gallagher

Cool, calm and composed under pressure, the veteran was a hugely calming influence on the team throughout. A joy to watch and exactly the type of performance you want from your experienced players. 👏

⚽ SOUTH CAVE UNITED 2-1 EDGEHILL

A game of fine margins saw Edgehill come away from South Cave empty-handed after a tight and competitive encounter.

The first half was closely contested, with the home side creating two very good opportunities to take the lead, but on both occasions they found Kian Hide in the way, with the Edgehill keeper making two excellent saves.

Edgehill thought they had taken the lead when Robbie Scarborough found the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for a shove — a decision the referee was very quick to make.

South Cave were also fortunate to still have 11 men on the pitch following a horrendous challenge on Ryan Link, with the referee deeming the tackle worthy of only a yellow card.

The second half saw Edgehill finally get the breakthrough on 49 minutes. Scarborough made no mistake this time, finding the bottom corner from just inside the box to put Edgehill 1-0 ahead.

South Cave then won a dubious corner, which was delivered to the back post and headed home to bring the scores level.

Just 10 minutes later, the home side completed the comeback, breaking quickly on the counter-attack before slotting past Hide to make it 2-1.

Edgehill battled right until the final whistle but couldn’t find a way back into the game, leaving the lads disappointed after another match decided by fine margins.

⭐ MOM: Joe Gallagher

Joe was outstanding throughout, showing tremendous drive, determination and work rate from start to finish.

A frustrating afternoon, but plenty of positives to take forward. 💪⚽️
