A touring party of 20 from Amesbury RFC Walking Rugby headed to Devon for a brilliant weekend on tour, with fixtures against Paignton Rugby Club and Newton Abbot Rugby Club

Sunshine & seafront walks, set the scene in Paignton in the morning before we arrived at the Queens Park ground, home of Paignton RFC. Our hosts were fantastic and, despite being new to Walking Rugby, gave us a real test with their pace, rugby experience and physicality. Amesbury’s knowledge of the walking version of the game eventually told, but Paignton are going to make formidable hosts and we hope they get more members to join their squad. After rugby came lunch, a lot of ales, music, dancing and fish & chips on the beach.

Sunday started with breakfast and Crazy Golf before heading to Newton Abbot RFC, where we were again superbly hosted and somehow managed to produce some decent rugby despite the weekend’s over-indulgence!

Thank you to our host clubs. A perfect place for a tour.

🏉 OWAIN FITZGERALD NAMED MEN’S XV CAPTAIN

We’re pleased to confirm Owain Fitzgerald as our Men’s XV Captain for the 2026/27 season.

Club Chairman Duncan said: “Owain is a club man through and through. He’s been with us since the club formed in 2017 and has contributed to so much of our history, so it’s personally very pleasing to see him take on the leadership of the Men’s XV squad for the season ahead.”

Owain added: “It feels like something special is building ahead of this season. The lads are buzzing to show what we can do, build on what we’ve started and keep showing that pride in the badge.”

We wish Owain and the lads huge success for the season ahead.

🏉 Amesbury RFC Walking Rugby at Melksham RFC Festival 🌧️💨😂

Well… someone forgot to tell the weather that Walking Rugby is supposed to be a leisurely dry weather sport! 🤣

Our Walking Rugby squad headed off to the Melksham RFC WR Festival today and were treated to the full British summer experience — wind, rain and just enough sunshine to give us false hope! 🌧️💨☀️

But did it stop us? Absolutely not!

There was plenty of rugby, plenty of running… well, walking with enthusiasm… and, as always, a ridiculous amount of laughing and banter. 😂

By the end, we were wet, windswept and wondering why we hadn’t taken up indoor bowls — but we’d had a cracking day! 🍻🏉

Massive thanks to Melksham RFC for hosting a fantastic festival and to all the teams who joined in the fun. Great rugby, great people and plenty of laughs.

Same time next week? We’ll bring the waterproofs… and possibly a boat. 🚣‍♂️😂
