Penn Street Cricket Club

Penn Street Cricket Club A friendly but competitive cricket club with a vibrant social scene. Always looking for new players! Here's ten reasons...

1. All are welcome to nets

8.

We are always looking for new members, who will receive a warm welcome. But why should you join Penn Street Cricket Club and not one of the other good local cricket sides? We only play friendlies, not League cricket. That means we have a more relaxed atmosphere on the field than League clubs.

2. That's not to say we aren't competitive. In our last full season we won 16 and lost 11 games, many of

these against local league opposition.

3. We welcome players of all ages and abilities. Anyone willing to be involved in the club will get a game.

4. We play Saturdays and Sundays from mid-April until the end of September. You are free to pick and choose how often - or how seldom - you want to play.

5. Our ground is one of the prettiest in South Bucks, opposite the Squirrel pub and Penn Woods.

6. We have a lively Junior section, the Squirrels, on Wednesday evenings

7. Every year we go on tour to Worcester, and in 2012 we went to South Africa, 2016 Sri Lanka and 2020 Barbados.

9. We have an active social calendar off the field, with annual trip to Lords, Dinner Dance, quizzes, horse-racing evenings etc

10. We have been described as "The little club with the big heart". We raised over £100,000 for Lords Taverners and local charities through Charity Cricket matches between 1983 and 2000. We raised £10,000 for RBL on our Charity Bike Ride (100 Not Out (of mind)) in 2014 and a further £10,000 for The Foundation of Goodness in Sri Lanka in 2016. Our women and girls and parent/child event took place yesterday with a interclub game followed by our first annual parent/child match.

Both were hotly contested and a top day was had by all.

Special mention goes to Lee Adams who was player of the day, but also to anyone who braved the heat to play in both games... top effort!

Our game with turned out to be a thriller!
Shortened to 30 overs a side due to poor weather forecast, England & Wales Transplant CC set out an imposing 218-3. Their opener scoring 82 after having a heart attack 6 weeks ago being truly inspirational!
It also brought about 2 firsts for the club, with both Joe Shuttle and Kelvin Jones taking their 1st Wickets for the club🐿️🐿️

Joe Shuttle and Alistair Cossins brought us close to the finish line both passing 50 for the first time this season, but when both fell in quick succession needing 54 to win off 7 overs, it looked as if we were in for a tight finish.

Josh Tollerfield and Steve Smith batted superbly, hitting his 2nd ball for 6, to take the game to the last over with 9 required. Steve was as ever unselfish and ran himself out off the penultimate ball meaning we needed 2 to win and 1 to tie off the last ball- thankfully Josh hit the last ball for 6, ending 47* and making sure Penn Street won by 4 wickets.

Massive thanks to Bobby for umpiring and Nathan and Jo for the Teas. It was a great game all round and we look forward to facing again next year!

An excellent weekend for the club last weekend going 3 from 3 in games!

Nick and Chris’s Under 9s continue their unbeaten start to the season with there win over Holmer Green. Great to see so many future Penn Street Players starting out their cricketing journey.

On Saturday, we beat Watford Town by 5 wickets. There was a 5 wicket haul for .mendy on his first game of the year including a Triple Wicket Maiden! Hitesh scored his first runs for the club and Asif had a successful innings after ousting the club captain midweek about batting opportunities! 🏏🏏
