UOC Paddling Society As the University of Cumbria's Paddling Society, we aim to give students the opportunity to go paddling whilst building friendships and having fun.

We are open to students of all levels, no equipment or previous experience needed.

This afternoons rescue session unfortunately had to be postponed due to blue green algae in the bay 😕

We instead spent some time discussing the algae, top tips for staying safe out on the water and talked about trip planning🛶

Hopefully we should be able to resume sessions soon and get back on track with getting everyone validated!

This Wednesday we are hosting a session focusing on rescues. Rescues are a crucial skill needed to be validated on the University's boats and a vital skill needed when paddling. 🛶

Due to the nature of the session, please come down to Brathay for 1pm ready to take a swim and get a little bit soggy. 🏊‍♂️

Paddling sessions now require a Paddling Society Membership, you can purchase one on the Su website for £17.50 (this covers you for all events and sessions for the whole year!)

“I had a great weekend on my white water safety and rescue course with Kinetic Paddlesports. I developed my skills, knowledge and confidence with rescues on moving water. I would recommend this course to anyone making the step into white water or anyone looking to improve their confidence on the river.”

Join us tomorrow for our first Splash Session of the year! Meet us at the boat stores at Brathay at 1pm - boats and buoyancy aids are available. This session has a £1 fee per person which must be paid in advance to secure your slot, you can pay for this using this link; https://www.ucsu.me/groups/paddling-society/join

Please wear clothes and shoes that can get wet (wetsuits, dry suits etc...) and bring along a spare set of warm clothes, a towel and a warm drink for afterwards! Cags are also available from stores for anyone who may want one.

I'm a third year outdoor leadership student and I've been paddling since I started uni. This year I'm keen to spend some more time on the lakes and rivers, and get out with some other keen paddlers.
