Hi all,

THE END OF AN ERA!

After a great deal of soul searching, careful consideration and financial calculation it is with much sorrow that I am announcing:

THE CLOSURE OF ALTON JUDO CLUB.

Ergo, AJC will not re-open in September.
The driving reason behind this decision is the lack of members turning up to practise since the new year; consequently income has fallen dramatically and our continued existence is no longer viable.

Having led AJC since its inception, some 45 years, this has not been an easy decision but all good things must come to an end.

Please, continue with your judo wherever you can, the BJA website has a list of clubs.

Take care and good luck in your future endeavours!

Hi All,

⚠️JUDO CANCELLATION⚠️

NO JUDO THIS FRIDAY JUNE 28!!!!

Apologies for short notice,
Sensei

12/06/2024

HELLOOOO!!!!
Is anybody out there?????

Where did everybody go? It’s not holiday time yet, not everyone is “doin’ exams – soooo....????
An empty dojo is a sad place!
All that’s missing is a tumbleweed blowing across the tatami.

Being captain and crew of the Mary Celeste is lonely.

You have just 3 more Friday sessions left before the long closure for summer hols, so make judo your priority for these few weeks and come along, all welcome.

An important thought for the new term regarding judo individual progress:
Be you at Sho, Mon or Kyu grade stage of your judo journey regular attendance and practice lead to improving/developing your judo on all fronts.
Progression through these belt levels follows individual assessment and evaluation within the club environs – after that Dan grade status beckons.

**FLY IN THE OINTMENT? IF YOU AIN’T THERE THEN YOU CAN’T BE ASSESSED, NO ASSESSMENT = NO ADVANCEMENT.** Simples!

Dan Grades!! Shodan is the first step of your black belt odyssey, it means” beginning stage.” It is not the end of your judo advancement. You might have completed your apprenticeship, however, enhancement of dan grade status is for those souls who invest time and effort in their judo. It is not just fighting ability that is appreciated at this level.

SAME MESSAGE – Regular, frequent dojo sessions are good for you and your judo.
EVERYBODY - DON’T REST ON YOUR LAURELS! KEEP MAKING THE EFFORT! DO IT!
See you in the dojo.

Hi One and All

First Off: - Adding my congratulations to Lucy on her splendid achievement of “Silver Medal”; an excellent result, another feather in her cap!

Just entering a competition of any level gets my vote. Stepping onto the tatami is an exciting moment, on your own, no team mates to help directly; facing a wide range of unknowns in the coming bout can be physically and mentally exhausting and that’s before hajime is called! But the experience is worth it.

To gain a medal place is the icing on the cake and as we all know icing is so sweet!!
So!! Consider giving judo competition a go this year.

Secondly: - Easter – “bin an’ gorn”, now we are back to normal this coming Friday April 19th, usual place and times, 6:30 juniors, 7:30 seniors. As usual help with laying the mats will be much appreciated.

See ya in the dojo.

Hi everyone,

News from Lucy Williams’ mum Tracey.
Lucy is off to Malta representing England at the Commonwealth Judo Championships. Her contests will be on Sunday 7th April – keep an eye on Youtube. Thence Lucy is off to Hungary in July for the European Universities judo championships. Lucy already took Gold at this year’s British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) judo championships. Well done Lucy on your achievements so far and good fortune with the upcoming events!

In addition, her mum Tracey informs us that Lucy is also furthering her studies, having embarked upon a two-year master’s degree. That is a big step up from the already challenging level of a bachelor’s degree.
All of this means that Lucy continues to be a very busy young lady and we wish her well in all of her endeavours.

Hi everyone,

Well…. After the change of venue foisted on us at short notice there was no surprise that attendance on Friday the 22nd was below expectations, the temporary dojo was like the Marie Celeste. However the few brave junior and senior souls who managed to find us had top quality “one to one tuition” from our Black Belts, Catherine Bayliss 1st Dan and John Owen-Morris 3rd Dan – many thanks to them both.

This debacle/fiasco (choose any one from over a dozen synonyms) was not of AJC’s making, simply due to poor planning and lack of communication by others. No names, no pack drill; however let us look to the future: -

No more judo until Friday April 19th due to the easter break which includes 29th March i.e. Good Friday, o.m.g three Friday nights without judo! (Booo!)

So, come back fully rested, both mentally and physically, attend future judo sessions regularly, prepare for grading assessments (junior and senior) and consider following Tamsyn’s example by entering some grade and age-appropriate competitions. You know you can do it!!!

Young Esben has just been promoted to 1st mon and on our return to the dojo will be proudly wearing a red stripe on his belt. Very well-done Esben!! Another AJC dan grade in the making.(Hooray!!)

Enjoy your easter break, remember hot cross buns and easter eggs have a particular significance at this festival – i.e. they have to be scoffed whenever/wherever/however possible but as a sensible and caring sensei I am duty bound to caution “always in moderation”.

Cheers

🚨IMPORTANT NEWS!!🚨

CHANGE OF DOJO LOCATION AT ALTON COLLEGE FRIDAY 22ND MARCH FOR ONE EVENING

Hi All,

Judo is still on for this coming Friday 22nd March but with a temporary move to the Martin Read Hall on the college campus.

So: - use the Alexandra Road car park, take the pedestrian exit via the steps, at the top turn right towards College Green and Martin Read Hall is on the right.

Sorry for the short notice but HSDC have only just been informed of this change and they let me know as soon as they were made aware. The fault in communication lies elsewhere.

Hi All,
Congratulations go to Tamsyn for her outstanding performance and result at the recent Surrey competition held in Redhill on February 11th. Attached are some photos taken on the day and supplied by her very proud dad.

Silver Medal in her first competition! Wow!
Competing in a group of far more experienced and higher-grade judoka Tamsyn won through to her medal position showing courage, determination, judo knowledge and calmness in the face of a situation that could easily have been intimidating and overwhelming. Tremendous performance under such pressure!

I always greatly admire anyone who decides to enter a judo competition, that alone is a huge step ‘cos once you are out there you are “flying solo” and it is all up to you; to achieve such a result as this, especially in Tamsyn’s maiden competition, is truly impressive.

Once again “Brill, Well Done Tamsyn” That black belt beckons.
