Alton Canoe Club

We are a friendly Kayak/Canoe Club based at Alton Leisure Centre. Just bring your own swim gear! During the summer months (April – September) we venture outside!

During the winter months (September – April) we run weekly sessions in the Leisure Centre pool. These sessions are primarily aimed at developing paddle skills and are perfectly suited to introduce new members to the sport whilst giving existing members time to hone their skills. The evening is split into two, with a dedicated junior’s session followed by the senior’s session. Each evening we aim t

o cover a different aspect of kayaking and canoeing such as rolling, rescues, slalom and everyone’s favourite, canoe polo. We have our own pool based canoes and equipment for members to use so there is no need to splash out on kit if you are just starting out. Groups of friends from the club arrange to meet up at various outdoor locations each Friday evening, usually within an hour’s drive of Alton. These sessions are aimed at those who have their own equipment and a reasonable level of competence on the water. Please message us for further details, you can be sure of a friendly welcome and non-pressured atmosphere :)

We're back in the pool at Alton Sports Centre for both junior and adult winter season sessions from Friday 11th September.

If you’re completely new to canoeing/kayaking, have had a first go this summer and want more or are returning after a few years away, Alton Canoe Club is a friendly recreational paddling club for ages 10+.

All equipment is provided to learn and develop our paddling skills in a pool environment, our safety and rescue skills and have fun with the ever popular canoe water polo!!

We spend September to April in the pool at Alton Sports Centre and Spring/Summer out and about on local rivers, canals, harbours and the sea.

We’ve been so incredibly lucky with the weather so far this year and last night was no exception at Broadmarsh in Langstone Harbour. It’s mad to think we’ll be back in the pool from
11th September.

Fun and laughs were had on Friday night during our regular basket polo night at Alton Sports Centre which gives our paddlers an opportunity to put their skills into action.

As the sun sets on our Summer 2025 calendar, we can reflect on some fantastic weather whilst paddling upon the Basingstoke Canal, River Wey, River Arun, Langstone Harbour, Chichester Canal and from the beaches at Hayling Island and Bracklesham Bay.
