The face behind HB Dance!

I’ve been dancing since I was little and started assisting classes & teaching when I was just 14, so dance has genuinely been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember 🩰

I started HB Dance in 2007, with a really simple idea. I wanted to create a dance school where children could come to learn, have fun, make friends and feel completely comfortable being themselves.

I used to work as a Community Dance Coach, teaching children and young people across different schools and communities. That experience really showed me how powerful dance can be, especially when you create a space where everyone feels seen & included.

And I think that’s probably the thing I’m proudest of about HB today.

The culture. 🩷

No egos. No comparing yourself to the person next to you. No pressure to be the best.

Just good people, lots of encouragement, friendships, confidence and a genuine love of dance.

One of my favourite things is seeing children join us when they’re tiny and then watching them grow into confident young people. We have students who started with us at 3 and then head off to college, uni & beyond … but yet still come back to say hello & tell me how much our school meant to them 🥹

Outside of HB, I’m Mum of 2, a massive coffee and chocolate lover, I love a Les Mills class, spending time with my friends, being anywhere near water and planning my next holiday! 😂☕🍫

If I could have one superpower, it would definitely be the ability to be in two places at once! 👯‍♀️

But if you ask me what I want most for every child who walks through the doors of HB, it’s simple…
I want them to love to dance.

They don’t have to be the best. I want them to feel safe enough to let go, make friends, have fun, move their bodies and feel like they belong.

We’re so proud of all our students after our first week back in class! We’ve loved seeing everyone, hearing all their amazing stories from over the summer and welcoming them back for another exciting year🥰

MISS GABBY 🩷

Teaching assistant and pupil Dance and Acro classes in Altofts and Rothwell✨ ✨

From taking her very first dance steps at HB at just 3 years old, to now helping the next generation of dancers find their confidence, Miss Gabby’s journey has come full circle. 🩰🫶🏼

Gabby has danced at HB every week for her whole life, and she’s loved every moment. As a little girl, she always looked up to the older dancers and assistants, especially HB’s first assistants, Ella and Jodie. She remembers how kind and encouraging they were and dreamed of one day being at the front of the class, leading warm-ups and helping the younger children just as they had helped her. 🥹

At 13, Gabby chose to complete her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award through volunteering at HB for six months. What started as volunteering on Tuesdays quickly became something she loved, watching the children’s confidence grow, seeing their technique develop and being part of their dance journey. 💕 She continued every Tuesday, and at 16, she was delighted to be offered an assistant teaching role adding Saturdays to her teaching.

For Gabby, assisting is about so much more than dance. She loves watching each child flourish in their technique, reach their own goals and gradually grow in confidence. 🥰

We are lucky to have Miss Gabby in our classes every week 🫶

✨ NORMANTON GALA ✨

We’re heading back to Normanton Gala this Sunday! 💖

Last year was SO much fun, and we can’t wait to do it all again with our amazing dancers 🥹✨

There’s something so special about performing outside, dancing in front of your family, friends and the wider community. We love being able to showcase the talents of our fabulous students 👫

So if you’re heading to the gala on Sunday, keep your eyes peeled for the HB dancers … performing at 1pm! 👀🩷
