We finish off the 2026 season with our 3rd XI hosting Embleton CC at Howick. The forecast looks good, let’s hope we finish the season on a high ☀️

Our first team made it 9 wins in a row in the league rounding off an excellent campaign with promotion already secured. Batting first we compiled an impressive total of 265 for the visitors to chase. Ed Brunton carried on his excellent form scoring 66, backed up well by Tom Vickers who hit an unbeaten 66 not out. The visitors were in no mood to hang around quickly got up to their total of 141 despite being bowled out in the process. Wickets for De Silva, Denton and Peart secured the points. Congratulations to Stocksfield who also secured promotion to the NEPL last weekend. We look forward to seeing them again next season.

The second team went down to Walbottle to finish off their season. Posting 155 was always going to be a challenge to defend. Jake Graham ended the season strongly with an excellently constructed 45 not out. In reply the home team reached their target for the loss of only one wicket. It’s been a tough year for the 2s, but playing against many formidable opponents across the league they should be very proud of their performances and endeavours. They will join the first team in the new NEPL structure in 2027.

The women’s team ended their season with a defeat to a strong Newcastle side. It was a day to forget on the batting front with us managing just 49. In reply, Newcastle did lose 5 wickets with excellent bowling performances from Violet Sim (1-6) and Harriet Clark (3-7). With such a young squad, the team have done very well to secure a comfortable mid table finish in the Premier Division.

Howick end their season next week against Embleton. Go well in your final game.

As we head into the final games of the season for our first, second and women’s team, all three will be looking to finish strongly.

The first team entertain Stocksfield at HQ hoping to make it 9 in a row in the league, and celebrate last weeks promotion with another strong performance. It’s a rare occurrence for Skipper Brunton, who names an unchanged eleven for this game.

The second team travel to Benwell and Walbottle with hopes of ending the season on a high. Oliver is able to name a strong side, which includes recalls for Robertson, Davidson, Weatheritt and Bill Stewart. With many options to call upon Oliver is hoping for a strong performance which brings together their recent endeavours into a victory.

Our women’s team are back for their final fixture away to Newcastle. It will be a tough final test for McLean and co, but a win takes them up to 6th in the table which would be a great finish with such a young squad. There are debuts handed to Iris Martin and Summer Ellis.

A huge congratulations are in order as our pro Chalana De Silva tied the knot with his beautiful bride Laura, choosing to celebrate their special day back at the club.
It was a superb day and wonderful to have the club as the backdrop to such a fabulous occasion.
