Another tremendous Weekend Retreat took place in Northumberland last weekend. A brilliant gathering of friends to take on Bamburgh Castle GC, Alnmouth Village GC, Dunstanburgh Castle GC and finishing up at Goswick GC. Thank you to the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel for excellent accommodation and keeping us very well fed and topped up with drinks!

It has been a pleasure to play the tightly contested Texas Scramble on Friday, Yellow Ball on Saturday and of course the main events… Retreat Champion and Retreat Shanker!

Our winner of the retreat was Donald Lowe with 96 points over 45 holes! Narrowly beating Malky MacColl by 5 points. Both played solid and deserving of the top spots.

Last years Champion, Charlie Allan, wrote his own history by becoming the 1st retreat champion to follow up with the Shankers Tankard.

Also David Napier winning the Photo Comp!

Next year can’t come soon enough. A really great fun weekend, with top golf courses, hotel and chums. ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️

The oldie’s vs the youngin’s!! Good luck to all playing in the FP’s vs School Boy’s match teeing off at Murrayfield today. 4 matches being played in one of the most favoured events of the year.

The 23rd edition of the Rabbit's Outing was played over Ratho Park in glorious weather on Tuesday 5th September.

The competition is open to golfers with a handicap over 19. Ten club members played including 6 previous winners, so for their level a strong field.

The outcome was close with David Mitchell and Jim Preacher both scoring 35 points but David retained the trophy that he won in 2022 with a better back nine. Third place was claimed by David K Aitken. The two's sweep went unclaimed !

Also playing were David Kyles, Mike Kidd, Alan Munro, George Bee, Alastair Grant and Charlie Allan.

Special thanks to our Honorary President Jack Mainland who hosted us at Ratho and scored a respectable points total.

Excellent way to spend a Sunday! Our Autumn Outing took us to the impressive Elie Golf House Club. The course was in superb condition, great weather if a little breezy, and the staff were brilliant for us - Thank you!
Despite the opening tee shot from the Captain ballooning out of bounds on the 1st, the rest of the days golf was very well played. Winning the scratch with an impressive 75 was Tommy Bryson, followed by Stuart Hope with 80.
Our winner of the Handicap was Robin Wrench, with 36 points, 2nd was Tom Kinghorn on 35 and Mike Kidd with 34.
Well done on the 2’s to Euan Robertson, Charlie Allan, Robin and John Hope, who had 2!
Great golf from All and looking forward to seeing a few of you on the Retreat later this month.

Tomorrow brings our first outing of the year, The Spring Outing, playing at Gullane #2. Teeing off from 13:20, last chance to join in as a couple of spaces have opened up!

RETREAT 2022…. What an excellent weekend of golf and a tremendous gathering of our members. We descended upon Dumfries this year, staying in Cairndale Hotel - great food and wine on offer. Some of the guys even managed a Prosecco by the swimming pool!

Texas Scramble Friday - we battled through a front 9 at Powfoot in 55mph winds and sideways rain and sleet to be met with glorious sunhine on the back 9.

Saturday - 9 holes at Colvend in the morning. Sunshine and wind at this fun and quirky course.

Then to Southerness in the afternoon for a breezy round on a fantastic links course. A real pleasure to play and a good challenge.

Sunday - final round at Dumfries and County. Another super course in excellent condition. The greens were lighting quick and true. A good parkland course and a change of scene from the previous rounds.

Congratulations go to Charlie Allen on winning the Retreat, just pipping last years winner, Nick Kordowski.

And what a contest in the Shankers!! Down to the last hole in the final between Euan Parker and Robin Mather. Robin getting that unwanted blob and secures the Tankard this year.

A very special mention to Chris Anderson for his hole in one on Sunday! The whisky will be brought for next years retreat.

A special thanks to Euan, Tommy, Charlie, Rory, Robin and Donald for their input and help with organising the weekend. And for all the thrashers for making it another enjoyable retreat. Looking forward to next year already!

Successful Autumn Outing at Goswick Golf Club on Sunday. Great turn out and tightly contested event! Some great scoring in a tough front 9, with a good breeze and some small rain showers, but settled down for the back 9.
Well done to Donald Lowe (38pts) just pipping James Armstrong (38pts) with a better back 9 to the Handicap competition. Ed Irvine with a strong 35pts for 3rd place.
In the scratch, Tommy Bryson shot a excellent 76 to beat Malky MacColl by a stroke.
Always a treat to play this fine course. It was in great condition, greens were running true and a solid test of golf. Thank you to the club for the warm welcome and looking after us!

Monday 12 September saw the 22nd playing of the clubs Rabbits Outing contested by seven stalwarts all with handicaps of 19 and above. After many years playing the competition at Ratho Park we were at Craigmillar Park this year kindly hosted by Mike Kidd.

David Mitchell showed his good local knowledge winning with 38 points scoring 19 points on both nines.

Sam Malcolm finished as runner up with 35 points and Mike Kidd finished third on 32.

Also playing were but finishing outside the winners enclosure were Graham Pole, Allan Munro, George Bee and Charlie Allan.

Members, we now have a handful of spaces left available for our Summer Outing at Muirfield, Thursday 30th June, tee offs from 16:30.

This is a rare opportunity to play the Open Championship course.
