Early August my daughter will be having a risk reducing double mastectomy and reconstruction along with benign tumor removal from her arm.

Due to this I will taking from 8th of August till September off. Perhaps the first week or so of September also.

It's unlikely that I will be taking on new clients before September in order to prioritize existing clients when I am able to return to work.

That said if you were considering getting in touch in order to start PT sessions still feel free to drop me a message. If I have any spaces suddenly open up I can let you know.

Avoiding resistance training is more harmful to the over 50s. One of THE biggest risks to the older population is frailty.

Frailty leads to loss of independence, loss of mobility and massively increases the risk of falls. The mortality rate after a fall resulting in a hip fracture is between 20 and 30 percent within a year.

How to prevent this? By stopping sarcopenia and osteoporosis. Older people should lift as heavy as is safe for them.

The over 50s do not need infantalised or mollycoddled. We aren't children. We need to train well and train hard (for us as individuals)

Don't go to a trainer who treats you like a fragile ceramic cup because of your age. The reality is if you want to see improvement you actually need to work hard. That's going to look different for everyone but the principle is the same.

Currently I'm not taking on any new in person clients. Let me know if you would like to go on a waitlist or would be interested in guided at home training.

I don't train to be the strongest person I know I'm not. Nor am I learning olympic weightlifting to win anything, it's likely I won't. I train in order to stay as independent as I can for as long as I can. To protect my muscle mass and bone density.

It's also a big f**K you to all the kids who called me a spastic, spakka legs and bandy. Who made me mistrust and hate my body for having femoral anteversion and a hypermobility spectrum disorder. Nearly 15 years of bullying with not a single adult who intervened, to the point where as a kid I often hoped I wouldn't wake up.

Over the years since then I've learned to love the body I'm in and how to work with it effectively. To take back who I am regardless, and yes I still occasionally get snide comments due to being disabled.

You don't have to be perfect to enjoy movement and you don't have to be the best at it to benefit from it!

Just move!

A bit of stretchy stuff before olympic lifting training. Someone's stupid brain (mine) decided that 4 am was a great time to be wide awake. Thanks brain!

Still 52 and still pretty mobile!

I'm 80 sessions and 8 months into learning olympic lifting with a coach. Which means I now know enough to aware of all the flaws I have in technique and it feels like being back to day 1 some sessions.

Thankfully I'm old enough to have been through this point in learning with many other things and know it will pass. But damn if it isn't a tough stage. It's also the stage in learning where a lot of people give up because humans are impatient and want results quickly.

The reality is often learning a new skill means being a beginner for years not months. There's progress along the way of course but for everything new learned there's something new to learn.

Still a few PBs the past week in sn**ch, clean and jerk and overhead squat. Just got to keep plugging away!!!

Personal bests this morning in both Sn**ch and Clean and Jerk.

Still have a huge amount to learn and work on technique wise. But yey me.

Coordinating my socks with my top definitely helped.

Rare disease day.

My daughter has PTEN harmatoma tumour syndrome. Essentially which means she can grow tumours both malignant and benign. She had cancer aged 10. She's never really been entirely well since.

She's had more biopsies and lumpectomies than I can remember. Every time I see her wheeled into surgery I die a little inside.

There are good periods and bad periods. Currently this one is an extremely bad one. She has been unwell since November. No one knows why.

She has multiple breast lumps and on Tuesday had 6 biopsies taken. It was not a good procedure and she had a really distressing autism meltdown in the middle of it. The whole experience was for her frightening and exhausting. They aren't always like that. But some days it's just too much for her to manage.

She has a huge lump on her head which appears to be a bone growth. This appeared during the long period of her being unwell along with extreme glandular swelling. Again we don't know what or why. The biggest fear always is it being something malignant.

She has a lipoma that covers the entirety of her left armpit and is strangling nerves in that arm.

As she just had a pre op appointment arrive for the end of March we think that means they are planning to remove the lipoma in April. This will be a major surgery and she will be unable to use her dominant (left) hand while healing.

Next week we get the results on the breast lumps and head CT.

This will never end for her.

She needs at some point to have a preventative double mastectomy and a hysterectomy and faces a lifetime of checks for cancer.

In the middle of all this we try to just enjoy life, but it's a huge unfair sh*tty burden for her to have to spend a life carrying.

Like most hypermobile wonky people I'm certainly not naturally muscular BUT I made it a priority post surgical menopause to build what I was capable of. It's not just about looking a certain way, I want to remain independent and active way into my later years. Muscle is absolutely crucial for this.

Whatever your age, whatever your muscle building genetics you can get stronger and it will be the best thing you can do for your health.

If you would like an online coach who can support you in your health journey whatever your starting point and get you building the strength you need for life message me now.

I'm taking on a small group of women looking to improve their life and mobility through sensible sustainable strength training. No previous exercise experience needed.

Earlier on today, first day of proper sun in Morocco. Bikini on feeling "yeah not too shabby for an old bird" then on my way into the garden I walked smack into the closed patio door. Thought I'd left it open didn't I! Well I hadn't had I! Very smooth
