Well the past month has been incredibly tough for guiding. Especially on our stretch of the Whiteadder with no rain for well over a month now making for incredibly tough fishing conditions.

We have started guiding for the Sea Trout which have arrived a little bit early this season, with a few successful evenings over the last few weeks. Inbetween that we have been picking windows of opportunity after any small rises we have had to try and catch some more Salmon. Our total for the Spring is 16 Salmon which we are incredibly happy with. The largest being 16Ib.

Good Friend & Client Jonathan McNeish was rewarded with some incredible fishing on the River Till over two mornings landing some lovely Salmon.

A great effort in tough conditions Jon. A massive well done.

I wish everyone a successful summer on the River and Tightlines for the rest of the Season!
Let’s pray for some rain very soon.

After a Incredible first half to our Spring Season, kicking off towards the end of March with our first fresh fish, the fishing got better and better as the weeks progressed. Early to Mid April was unbelievable.

We were very lucky to get a series of good floods within a few weeks on the Whiteadder which kept the levels topped up and brought fresh fish into the system on a daily basis providing us with some superb sport.

More incredible memories were made with some incredible fish being landed, four of my clients landing there first ever salmon on the fly and a few friends landing a handful of fish in a small time period. Certainly a few weeks I will not forget in a hurry!
All the fish you see pictured were all caught on single handed 7 & 8 weight trout rods I may add, making the moment and fight even more special.

A positive post which suddenly leads to a negative post unfortunately due to the last few weeks weather. No serious rain for nearly two weeks now has put a stop to our guiding on the Whiteadder,
A lack of flow and gin clear water makes fishing impossible but more importantly makes very uncomfortable conditions for the Spring Salmon.

All we can do is pray for rain 🙏🤞☔️

Iv added a few pictures below of our April Highlights, apologies if iv missed a few photos out of Clients.

I wish everyone Tightlines for the rest of your Spring and let’s hope we finally get some well deserved rain so we can end our Spring Fishing on a high.

A rising river yesterday for client Ian Williams meant only a small window of opportunity in the morning.
I knew the river would have peaked last night and started to drop but I thought the colour could be still bad and challenging this morning but I decided to go for it anyway.

The end result and decision was certainly a good one!
Ian’s First Spring Salmon on the Fly and Incredible fish covered in sea lice and made a incredible account of itself on the 8 weight single hander.
They certainly don’t come any better.

A massive well done Ian, I’m chuffed for you!!! Certainly not a wasted trip now for you.

Willie Gunn Tubes doing the damage once again! Thanks Michael Currie

What a way to finish there second day, a massive congratulations to good friends Tim & George who managed to both land there first Spring Salmon on the fly and go on and land a few more.

They certainly do bring good look, last year they managed to land two double figured sea trout and this year they landed three Spring Salmon. A massive highlight of my guiding season so far.

With heavy rain falling now after leaving the river, it Looks as though the river is going to rise hard again later today and possibly be unfishable with us for the next few days. But hopefully that will bring a few more fresh fish into the pools and provide us with more superb sport for the end of the week and next week.

Just a Quick note for everyone after numerous booking enquiries for Spring fishing. We are now fully booked for the Spring and Early summer and are now taking bookings for August onwards with limited availability. If you want any information for future guided trips and fishing availability please contact us through Facebook or via our website.

Thanks & Tightlines to everyone,

Big thanks again to our good friend Michael Currie for tying us the next batch of Willie Gunn tube variants which have proved to be incredibly popular with the Spring Salmon for us over the past few weeks.

If anyone is after any custom tied flies look no further than Michael Currie.

Thanks again & Tightlines.

People say I have an amazing Job and when it all comes together I would say I do,
This morning I certainly did!!

Fish of my season so far and highlight of my season makes we realise how lucky I am.
Teaching good friend George to cast for a few hours then him landing a fin perfect Spring Salmon covered in sea lice on the trout rod, in my eyes it doesn’t get better than that!

A massive congratulations to you once again.
Me and your dad are over the moon for you.

Everything came right for my great friend & client Alan earlier today, Having a magical morning landing some beautiful Spring Salmon and also loosing a huge fish at the net but that’s fishing.

All fish falling victim to a Willie Gunn 1” tube fished on our single handed Sage XP 8 weight rod matched with the Rio Trout Spey.

A massive congratulations Alan, great times on the river together and more magical memories made.

Tightlines to everyone next week,

A long time coming this season, with a few fish lost mid March and one fish landed then a period of low water.
I was praying for rain, not only for my clients and a full diary but also to get the fish into the system and spread into the pools. Early April was the start of our main spring catches last year so I knew if we had rain and a good lift in levels our spring season would begin!

A big lift last week and another big lift yesterday, flooded off this morning I knew we had a few hours this afternoon/evening!

Great friends, Adam & Richard. Probably recognised from the Falcons Rugby field enjoyed some unbelievable fishing!! Richard’s first Spring Salmon on the fly!
A Two hour window we had the chance of 4 Salmon. Absolutely incredible moments which we certainly won’t forget in a hurry.

A few pictures of our afternoon.
Fishing for the next week should be superb.

Tightlines everyone, James

The 1st of February is always a great day in the fishing diary to see in the start of the new Salmon Fishing season.

Low water and high winds didn’t spoil the fun for us today…. Sadly no fish but an amazing lunch prepared by our great friend Ashly made for a very enjoyable day.

We are very excited for the season ahead and have a incredibly busy diary all the way through to September. We are just about fully booked till autumn now.

After our incredible success last spring, it’s only a matter of time before the spring fish start to show up on our stretch of the Whiteadder. Levels are low so we could do with a good lift to start the season off.

I want to take this time to wish all our friends and clients a very successful 2022 fishing season.

Tightlines everyone,
James and the Team, Chasing Fins.

Less than two weeks to go and our 2022 season will begin! 🎣

We are all very excited at Chasing Fins for the start of the season. Fly Boxes Replenished, new clothing from Patagonia, Schoffel & Simms at the Ready.
Rods, Reels & Lines all organised in anticipation for a great fishing season.
Our most exciting part of the season is the Spring, after last years success we are hoping for another incredible few months. Welcoming some great friends and clients back onto the river bank but also welcoming new faces along too.

Just a update on Bookings & the Diary Position for the 2022 Season.
We are just about fully booked till mid August now. Our busiest season yet after a great start in 2021. Cancellations and date changes do happen occasionally. If you wish to be added to the Latest availability please fill in the “Contact us” form on our website. We have a waiting list for any cancellations, especially in the Spring.
We will email all our mailing list with any last minute availability that becomes available.

I personally want to take this time to wish all our Fishing Friends, Clients, Guides & Ghillies a fantastic 2022 Season. Catching Fish is a Bonus remember, spending time on the river bank with great friends immersed in nature is what fishing is really about.

Going forward, we will do our best to update our social media and website with conditons & catches on a weekly basis from February onwards.

Thanks once again for the continued support and Tightlines.
