Last week the 2nd division ‘Alnmouth Greens’ welcomed ‘Backworth B’ to our lawns. A chilly day which, fortunately, just managed to escape rain except for a little shower. 🌧️. Alnmouth Greens took an early lead and were still ahead at the half way mark. Backworth came back a little after lunch but couldn’t quite catch up and Alnmouth Greens managed to just keep their lead and take a home win 11-7 .

On Friday our 3rd Division Purple team had a short jaunt up to the most beautiful setting of Bamburgh to play their 3rd division team. A lovely sunny day with a little breeze made for a pleasant match at one our favourite places. The match was played in good spirits. Purples established a good lead by round 4 but Bamburgh got their act together towards the end of the day in the doubles. Purples ended the day with a very satisfactory 12.5 - 5.5 win. Well done all.

On Wednesday ‘Bamburgh A’ made their 2nd trip down to us at Alnmouth to play the Blues, our other 1st division team. .. It was rather chillier than the week before but thankfully stayed fair. Bamburgh took an early lead but Alnmouth got into their stride and levelled it up after the 2nd round. Bamburgh then had a spurt and took the lead again and it was close then right up until the last games. The day was full of humour and laughs ,variety & drama… including cramp!… and once again some great jump shots. It all came down to the last couple of games and Bamburgh held on to take the win 9.5-8.5 .

Today, under a very pleasing sunny sky, the first division ‘Alnmouth Reds’ welcomed the lovely ‘Bamburgh A’ team to our lawns.
Bamburgh got stuck in and took an early lead, Alnmouth still getting to grips with early season lawns, but credit also to Bamburgh for some wonderful winning shots . Both sides witnessed some great clearing , hooping and jumping ( including one spectacular one from Tom a good distance away from the hoop that raised a cheer from both teams! )
By lunch the scores were even.. so it was all to play for in the afternoon and Alnmouth held it together and managed to secure the win 11-7 .
A great day with great company.

Yesterday our 2nd Division ‘Alnmouth Greens’ welcomed ‘Bamburgh B’ to the croquet lawns. Barely into double figures the temperature was chilly but stayed fine and sunny all day. Bamburgh took an early lead which included one of SIX golden hoops of the day which shows how close the games were throughout the day. Well fought games which included a couple going to 8 balls. The Greens, unfortunately, never caught up despite the fight and some fabulous shots. Well done Katy and Lyn for taking 2 each of the singles wins that the Greens took.

Bamburgh 13.5 Alnmouth Greens 4.5

Good effort Greens and well played Bamburgh to secure 5 of the 6 golden hoops.

Last week our own two first division teams, Alnmouth Reds & Alnmouth Blues faced each other for their first GC match of the CN league 2026 season.
Blessed with fine, sunny weather both teams tackled the challenges of early season lawns…..there may have been one or two unplanned jump shots occurring on both sides 😄… and some tutting and head shaking along with the nodding and usual friendly banter ! … all in a day’s competitive play.. especially between teams in your own club 😬…
There were some good close games with a few going to the golden hoop and the Reds in the end took the win..

Ted/ dad (92) & co getting to grips with outfield lawns for the new season ..and the chilly sea fret today … Our croquet lawns are on the cricket field at Alnmouth where the ground staff have been working hard to get the pitch and ground ready for themselves to play cricket on as-well as help us to play our own matches on. This winter has been particularly wet for long periods which has meant a lot more work for them. There have been quite a few unintentional jump shots which were intended to be clearances 😄…
Our first CN match of the season is next week when our 1st division Reds take on our 1st division Blues ! .. the forecast looks decent so hopefully we play with the freedom of fewer layers ! 😊….

Mallets dusted off…. Coats, hats and gloves still on .. & off.. then on again …. Fresh air and sunshine , hailstones & showers …social gathering and chit chat … some serious.. some hilarious …. AGM over and done … new faces welcomed … league fixtures perused over…. teams confirmed…
We have begun.. and it’s wonderful … looking forward to the season ahead.
