π₯π₯ SILVER MEDAL FOR AOIFE AT THE FOUR NATIONS π₯π₯
What a weekend for Aoife, who boxed in the final of the Four Nations today after a fantastic performance yesterday where she defeated the Welsh Champion to secure her place in the final.
In today's final, Aoife faced one of the most decorated young female boxers in the Britain,Lily Bassett. Lily is a four-time England Boxing National Champion, a three-time European Champion, a Youth Olympic Games qualifier, a World Futures Cup Gold Medallist, and has been recognised as England Boxing's Female Boxer of the Year.
Despite this being only Aoife's ninth contest, she never once shied away from the challenge. Standing across the ring from an opponent with over 40 contests and only one defeat in her entire career, Aoife took the fight to Lily from the opening bell. She wasn't there to make up the numbers β she went in to win and more than held her own against one of the very best young boxers in Europe.
Aoife gave a tremendous account of herself, losing on a points decision but earning the respect of everyone watching. It speaks volumes that Lily's coach came over after the bout to comment on just how talented Aoife is considering the limited experience she has. Lily herself mentioned that many girls choose to pull out rather than face her, but that was never going to be Aoife. She stepped up, embraced the challenge, and showed exactly what she is made of.
To come away with a Four Nations Silver Medal after only nine bouts, having boxed and beaten top opposition along the way, is a remarkable achievement and a sign of what lies ahead.
Hopefully Boxing Scotland has taken notice of the potential Aoife has shown throughout this tournament and gives her the opportunity to represent Scotland more in the future. This weekend proved that she is more than capable of competing with the best at that level.
The entire club is incredibly proud of Aoifeπ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώπ₯
