🤩Gutha Stars with Brilliant 💯 as Clacks Defeat Glenrothes🤩

The 2nd XI was victorious against Glenrothes 2 at home on Saturday 13th June by a convincing 93 runs.

Winning the toss, Captain Alastair McConnell (sponsored by Ruby's Pictures) opted to bat. The team put on their top score of the season, finishing on 217 runs for just 5 wickets at the end of their 40 overs.

A maiden century for Clackmannan from Sunil Gutha (sponsored by Siri Cabs) was a particular highlight, including six 6s and four 4s, achieving the total in just 90 balls. He was ably supported by Tom Hutchison (40 not out, sponsored by Bee Happy Nutrition) and Keith Hefer (11 runs).

In reply, Glenrothes were all out for 124 runs, with Joe Smith (3 for 13, sponsored by Glendevon Country Park) the pick of the bowlers. Raviteja Jonnalagadda (2 for 16) and Gutha (2 for 29) also bowled impressive spells.

In the field, Smith also took 2 catches and there were 2 direct hit runouts from McConnell and Gutha.

This win leaves the team with 4 wins and 4 losses in the season, and they are back in action at home next Saturday with a local derby against Doune and Dunblane, 12pm start.

🤩Magnificent 7️⃣ Clackmannan Maintain Perfect Start with Victory at Freuchie🤩

Clackmannan County First XI travelled to Fife on Saturday to face old rivals Freuchie and produced another impressive performance, securing a seventh consecutive victory to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat, the hosts' decision initially appeared justified as Clacks lost opener David McConchie (sponsored by uGym) for a duck in just the second over, bowled by Birrell with the score on four.

Tariq Mehboob (sponsored by Sports Markings Scotland Ltd) was joined by Graham Oliver, and the pair steadied the innings with a patient partnership, punctuated by several authoritative boundaries.

The stand was broken with the score on 52 when Oliver (17) edged Birrell to slip, where Glasgow held a sharp catch.

Mehboob continued to anchor the innings and looked to increase the scoring rate before falling to young spinner McLaughlin for a well-compiled 40.

In-form duo A***n Gates (sponsored by Kevin Bryce Plumbing, Heating & Gas) and Sai Daddolu (sponsored by Stallions Cricket) were unable to build on their strong starts to the season, both falling cheaply to McMurdo. Gates (11) was bowled, while Daddolu (12) was caught at slip by Glasgow.

Rizwan Ashraf (sponsored by SM Decorating.), fresh from an impressive T20 batting display earlier in the week, was dismissed without scoring, again by McMurdo.

At 100 for 6 after 25 overs, Abdullah Rana joined captain Blair Campbell (sponsored by IKL Care) in the middle, with the pair tasked with rebuilding the innings.

Campbell suffered a hamstring injury early in his knock and required a runner, but he and Rana combined effectively to restore momentum and guide Clacks beyond the 150 mark before Campbell departed for 14.

Sham Shabbir then joined Rana as the visitors looked to push towards a competitive total. Rana was in excellent touch throughout his innings, striking eight fours and two sixes. With the score approaching 180, Shabbir (12) was caught at mid-wicket by Glasgow, bringing Ali Arshad (sponsored by Barrel Built Designs) to the crease.

Rana reached a deserved maiden half-century for Clackmannan with a powerful leg-side boundary before launching a huge six over the Freuchie pavilion, resulting in a lost ball. Arshad contributed an unbeaten 10, while Rana remained undefeated on an excellent 65 as Clacks closed on 199 for 8 from their allotted 40 overs.

Defending 199, Clackmannan knew disciplined bowling and sharp fielding would be crucial. Rizwan Ashraf and Sai Daddolu opened the attack, with Ashraf making the breakthrough by trapping Collins leg before wicket.

Although Daddolu initially struggled to find his rhythm, Ali Arshad replaced him and made an immediate impact, removing the dangerous Glasgow, who was well caught by captain Campbell at gully.

Ashraf struck again to bowl Kelly before Arshad claimed his second wicket, having McLaughlin caught behind by Oliver. Freuchie were left struggling at 48 for 4.

Tariq Mehboob entered the attack and quickly removed McMurdo, who was caught in the deep by Shabbir while attempting to clear the boundary. Arshad then collected his third wicket of the day as Crawford was caught at mid-wicket by Ashraf, reducing the hosts to 65 for 6.

A determined partnership between Freuchie captain Armstrong and Birrell offered the home side a glimmer of hope. However, Mehboob returned to break the stand, with Birrell falling for a resilient 19 after being caught in the deep by Daddolu. Mehboob claimed his third victim when Bisset was stumped by Oliver.

A***n Gates joined the attack and soon accounted for Armstrong, bowling the Freuchie skipper after a hard-fought 15.

Some late resistance from Moffat (14) and young Kayla Mutch (4 not out) proved insufficient, with Gates bowling Moffat to bring the innings to a close on 119.

Clackmannan's victory was built on an outstanding all-round bowling and fielding display. The standout performers were Tariq Mehboob (3 for 31) and Ali Arshad (3 for 32), ably supported by A***n Gates (2 for 12) and Rizwan Ashraf (2 for 17).

The win extends Clackmannan County's remarkable unbeaten run to seven victories from seven matches in SPCU Division 2, keeping them firmly at the top of the table as the season reaches its halfway point.
The First XI now turn their attention to next Saturday's fixture away to Perth Doo'cot 3, where they will look to continue their impressive run of form.

💔2nd XI FALL SHORT DESPITE GUTHA’S ALL-ROUND EFFORT💔

Clackmannan County 2nd XI suffered defeat away to Dundee HSFPs on a blustery afternoon, with challenging conditions and intermittent showers sweeping in from the Firth of Tay.

Captain Alastair McConnell continued his 100% record at the toss this season, winning once again and electing to bowl first.

Dundee made the most of their opportunity with the bat, posting a competitive 199-5 from their allotted overs. Sunil Gutha (sponsored by Siri Cabs) was the standout performer for Clackmannan, returning impressive figures of 2-35 from his eight overs. Sham Shabbir, Mohammad Rizwan and Tom Hutchison (sponsored by Bee Happy Nutrition) each claimed a wicket, while vice-captain Joe Smith (sponsored by Glendevon Country Park) excelled in the field with two excellent catches.

Facing a challenging target of 200, Clackmannan's reply got off to a difficult start as early wickets left the visitors on the back foot. Despite the setbacks, several batters showed resilience to keep the innings alive.

Gutha completed an impressive all-round performance by top-scoring with a quickfire 28 from just 23 deliveries, including a towering six that disappeared into the trees beyond the boundary. Nick Bryant Nichols (17, sponsored by G.B. Hutchison) and McConnell (13, sponsored by Ruby's Pictures) then helped stabilise the innings following a flurry of wickets, providing some much-needed resistance in the middle order.

A late flourish from Sham Shabbir added further respectability to the total. Finishing unbeaten on 24, he struck the ball cleanly and entertained spectators with a powerful six during his innings.

However, the required run rate proved too great, and Clackmannan were eventually bowled out for 122 in the 31st over, falling 77 runs short of their target.

The 2nd XI will look to bounce back next Saturday when they host Glenrothes at The Arns. Play is scheduled to begin at 12pm.

🤩SIX FROM SIX AS CLACKMANNAN CRUISE PAST BROOMHALL🤩

Clackmannan County First XI welcomed Broomhall to The Arns on Saturday, 6 June, with threatening rain clouds failing to interrupt play. Clackmannan captain Blair Campbell won his fourth consecutive toss and elected to bat first on the Arns wicket.

Openers Tariq Mehboob (sponsored by Sports Markings Scotland Ltd) and David McConchie (sponsored by uGym) found scoring difficult early on, with the pitch offering little pace and some inconsistent bounce. The pair put on 26 for the first wicket before Mehboob (15) was caught off the bowling of Balmiki while attempting to increase the scoring rate.

Graham Oliver, returning to the side, looked assured despite the challenging conditions.
McConchie (19) was bowled by Breen with the score on 48, and Oliver (14) followed shortly afterwards, leaving Clackmannan at 56-3 after 20 overs.

A***n Gates (sponsored by Kevin Bryce Plumbing Heating & Gas) and Sai Daddolu (sponsored by Stallions Cricket) then came together at the crease with the task of rebuilding the innings and setting a competitive total.

Showing patience and composure, the pair gradually took control, combining intelligent strike rotation with well-timed boundary hitting to guide the score beyond 100.

Young Australian Gates, who has impressed with the bat in recent weeks, accelerated the scoring with elegant strokeplay and sharp running between the wickets. Given a reprieve after being dropped in his twenties, he made Broomhall pay for the missed opportunity.

At the other end, Daddolu continued his excellent form, striking three sixes and demonstrating why he has been one of Clackmannan’s standout performers this season.

The pair dominated the middle and latter stages of the innings, steering Clackmannan towards the 200 mark. Daddolu brought up his third score of fifty or more this season before eventually falling for an excellent 83, caught while attempting another big hit off the bowling of Ramsay. Gates soon followed after completing a well-deserved maiden half-century for the Wee County, departing for 55 after being caught off Hoefling.

With four overs remaining and the score at 202-5, captain Blair Campbell (sponsored by IKL Care) and Kayne Nicholson (sponsored by Roy & McIntyre Funeral Home) looked to add valuable late runs. Campbell (2) was run out by his opposite number while attempting to regain the strike after driving to mid-off.

Nicholson (7*) and Tom Hutchison (0*, sponsored by Bee Happy Nutrition) ran hard between the wickets in the closing overs as Clackmannan finished on a strong 211-6 from their allotted 40 overs.

Following the tea interval, Clackmannan took to the field knowing there was still work to do to convert a promising position into victory.
Opening bowlers Rizwan Ashraf (sponsored by SM Decorating.)and Ali Arshad (sponsored by Barrel Built Designs) immediately applied pressure with disciplined and accurate bowling.

The breakthrough came when Ashraf bowled opener Hynd for 3. The pair then struck twice in quick succession, Arshad first holding a sharp caught-and-bowled chance to dismiss Breen (1), before Ashraf removed Hoefling (2), brilliantly caught by Oliver in the slips.
At 12-3 after eight overs, Broomhall were under severe pressure.

Visiting captain Scott Lucas and former Clackmannan player Neil Ramsay attempted to rebuild the innings, prompting Campbell to introduce spin through Tariq Mehboob and A***n Gates on a surface offering increasing turn.

Mehboob proved particularly effective, bowling the well-set Lucas for 19 before having Ramsay (7) caught by Ashraf at gully. Broomhall’s resistance quickly unravelled as wickets fell regularly, reducing the visitors to 38-8.

David McConchie ran out Newman (0), Gates had Robertson (0) caught by Oliver in the slips, and Mehboob trapped A. Kumar (1) lbw as Clackmannan tightened their grip on the contest.

The victory was secured in the 22nd over when confusion between S. Kumar and Balmiki (6*) led to a run out. Kumar drove to mid-off and set off for a single, but hesitation between the batters allowed McConchie and Nicholson to complete the dismissal and seal a commanding 164-run victory for the home side.

The standout bowling performances came from Tariq Mehboob (3-7), Rizwan Ashraf (2-6), A***n Gates (1-5) and Ali Arshad (1-20). In the field, David McConchie contributed to two run-outs, while Graham Oliver held two excellent catches in the slips.

The result makes it six wins from six matches for the Wee County, who remain top of the table and continue to impress in Division 2 of the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union.
Clackmannan now turn their attention to a top-of-the-table clash away to Freuchie on Saturday, 13 June.

The match is scheduled to be live-streamed on Freuchie Cricket Club’s YouTube channel from 12pm.
