Amber Valley Voices returned to the Golf Club for a second year, on Tuesday, (17th December), and gave us a wonderful Christmas themed musical concert.

With space for only some of their large local choir, 40 singers gave us nearly two hours of festive songs and poems. Performing to a full room they kept the gathered crowd well and truly entertained.

The traditional complementary mulled wine and mince pies were provided by the Ladies golf section and the Captains at the half time interval, thanks goes to them.

Additionally the Grand Christmas raffle was drawn with over 50 prizes on offer. We were pleased that some of the choir participated and also took away some of the spoils.

Thank you to all who attended, performed, purchased raffle tickets and donated prizes and food. The proceeds of the raffle, around £500, will go towards further Clubhouse refurbishment.

Alfreton golf club is a great venue for wakes. We are in a lovely spot set in 60 acres of beautiful park land.

We are just 5 mins away from the crematorium at Swanwick.

Disabled access great function room, full catering and bar services etc.

But here is my dilemma.

How to you tastefully promote a venue for a wake?

This week has been full of festivity!

We had our Christmas Shotgun competition at the Club on Tuesday, followed by a seasonal meal.

Well done Dave King and Gary Crompton winning on countback from Keith Hopkinson and Peter Labas, 43pts. Third were Alan Bramley and Alan Beastall on 42pts.

And, while the senior men were on the course, the ladies ‘escaped’ to the Excavator for a Christmas lunch and get together.
