Huge shout out to our amazing volunteers at Run Loch Lomond today! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

They helped marshal the Kids' Fun Run before heading to the water station, where they cheered on and supported runners taking part in the 10k. 💙💧

Thank you for your energy and enthusiasm – events like these couldn't happen without you! 🙌

“These scenarios sound a bit TOO familiar”

Two weeks ago at SYG, we had a pretty relaxed night with 3 of our members leading their own sessions.

First session was delivered by Keira in different fun games. These games would be useful when it comes to working at camps where there’s different age group ranges. A lot of these games were stuff most of us have never seen before 🏐

Second session was delivered by Meghan on scenarios. We were split off into 3 groups and given two different scenarios we may come across in the working world of coaching or within SYG. In our groups we had to come up with solutions to these problems, then we discussed them as a group to see if other people could add onto based on similar situations they may have personally experienced. 📝

Lastly to finish the night Rowyn lead a session on teamwork games. We were split into two teams and each game we participated in, the team that won would get a point. The team with the most points at the end won a cool keychain of an SYG hoodie! 🤝

“Stop rage baiting me” 😅

Recently at SYG we took part in two brilliant sessions with Scottish Sports Future working towards two SCQF Level 5 qualifications in planning effective physical activity programmes and conflict resolution. 🤝⚽️

In the first session we explored the mental, social and physical benefits of sport through activities like capture the flag, team strategy games and group discussions around programmes and outcomes. 🚩

The second session focused on conflict resolution, teamwork and fairness through interactive games and challenges. We discussed what conflict is, how it can escalate and the importance of communication and understanding within teams. 🍫⚽️

A big takeaway from both sessions was:
“Connection before content” and “connect before we correct.” 💭

Big thank you to SSF for delivering two great courses.

Last two sessions at SYG we had a brilliant SCQF Level 5 course in Working with Young People in Sport lead by Kam from Scottish Sports Futures🏅

We introduced ourselves by associating our name with an animal that begins with the same first letter 🐨

We then had some fun playing different games and group activities. We also had the challenge to adapt these games to suit the needs of children and individuals we might work with. 🤝

The second week of our session with Kam he let us take a bigger role of leading. ✨

We were given a challenge of creating our own games using 1 piece of equipment. 🏐

We all then discussed the pros and cons about being leaders. ✅

Kam was brilliant telling us how he got into sport and coaching and then opened up the conversation of discussing the many reasons why young people or anyone would get into sport 👏

“Why do you have legs, they’re blocking me from receiving the ball” 🏐

Few weeks back at SYG we had great fun having a handball course lead by Jacqui from Scottish Handball Association✨

We started of with a warm up game of tig which was then adapted to play in partners. We then adapted it further by passing a ball round between each pair which helped to prevent you from being tug. 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

We then went into some team games where we had to pass the ball to someone in our team 10 times in a row to win. We also done a relay race in our two teams where one person would run up and pass the ball back to the person behind them and continued this until everyone in our team had passed the ball back and ran back to sit down. 🏃‍♂️

Finally we went into a few games of handball and adapted it that only 2 people were allowed in the half circle at a time and also added in that the person in the half circle had to be sat down when they received the ball to win. 🏐

“Can you turn the music down it’s distracting, and you need better taste” 🎶

Last two sessions at SYG we had the great opportunity to have our sessions lead by Stuart from Youth Scotland.✨

We played different games and challenges that involved using different skills within each one and we had to discuss how we used these skills in each game. a lot of our games involved team work, coordination, communication and thinking skills👏.

Some of the games we tried out were the human knot. We also managed to adapt the game to include people who weren’t ‘part’ of the ‘human knot’ by having them being the only people verbally speaking, deciding how everyone should untangle themselves while everyone else wasn’t allowed to speak🪢

Another game we attempted was a ‘landmine’ game in groups of 3. One person (Person A) would have to be directed through the cones blindfolded without touching them, but the person (person B)giving the directions to get through them, isn’t allowed to see ‘person A’. the third person (person C) is able to see ‘person A’ walking through the cones but is only allowed to use non verbal communication to ‘person B’ who is giving the directions to ‘person A’ by telling them what way they have to go. We found this challenging when it came to several groups all shouting at the same time near one another and even harder when we started to play music in the background too. 💣

At the end of both of our sessions we filled out a Hi5 award booklet. We wrote about what we done in our sessions and what it helped us gain. This booklet allowed us to achieve the equivalent of a Nat2 qualification!
