Little race report 🏁
So, first time back out in the Mazda since the rebuild. We finished at 11 p.m on Saturday night. The guys have worked soo hard over the last couple of weeks to get it done. I can't thank them all enough because without them it would definitely never been done. All we done was six little laps around Aldershot on Thursday night, with no body or firewalls just to give it a quick shakedown, which then we found we had a fuel leak. We cured that and that was pretty much it.
Track conditions were not the greatest for practise - very, very wet and slippery. No-one's fault, just with the rain from Saturday, Thursday just wasn't hot enough to dry.
Heat one car felt pretty good. We could say we could have tweaked it but looking at lap times, we can't really complain. Setting fastest lap of the meeting with a 12.8 which is probably our fastest lap time we've ever set around there. We did have 12.8 before but I think it was 12.88 when we set our lap record, then beaten by Aaron Dew. We had a puncture at the end of the race. Not sure what lap we got that but the wheel come apart and leaked all the air out.
Heat two, couple of little tweaks, off the back of the blues. Got a little bit more held up but again, managed to come through with a 12.9 fastest lap of the race. I think it was 12.98 and got third but just didn't clear enough of the traffic until too late in the race to do any dent on 175 and 77.
And the final, just a good start again really. Another 12.9 lap time - second quickest of the race. Just again, not having enough to pass Nick Roots but the guy drove a faultless race.
He didn't make a single mistake when he was under pressure and he took flag to flag victory. A little bit to look forward to for Skegness.
Hopefully we can do some improvements now on the car, try and find a little bit more as it was all new shockers after the complete rebuild so there's plenty to learn. So, roll on Skegness and then hopefully we'll have the Tigra for Ipswich on the Monday.
Hope to see you there 👍
