After feeling pretty crappy & unfit coming back into riding after having a month or so off the bike back in June, decided a couple weeks back to have a proper restructure of things with my nutrition
Emphasis very much on being purposeful with quality of food/ fuelling rather than just cramming in food so I don’t feel dead like I maybe got into a bad habit of doing earlier in the year 👀😶🌫️
In just a few weeks am feeling a tonne better with energy both in & out of training, recovery is defo better, &&& power is also finallyyyy returning yay
also dropped around 2kg intern just by cleaning things up, & topped it off by winning my first proper bike race this past week which hopefully shows it’s all working 🤠
With endurance sports you have to eat a tonne of food, but it can sometimes become a blur between eating enough for the sake of just eating enough, and eating quality food at the right times to actually fuel and perform well
Under fuelling training/races will often = high hunger in the 24/48 hours post session, whereas by being better structured with pre, during and post fuelling, this will always help give better recovery, but also help avoid the large hunger spikes after training :)
A lot of people underestimate that nutrition is very much the ONLY way you can create the consistent progress you want, as you will never create an environment that allows for consistent performance without it
You can be training 5/6 days a week 110%, but if your nutrition is inconsistent & you are under fuelling then over compensating with food post sessions > you’re not gonna create consistent performance which is where you’ll see progress
Total daily cals can be used a million times better when spaced purposefully around training & used for quality sources
Even as someone who’s been working with clients on nutrition over 10 years, it can be super easy to let small things creep in that you don’t notice at time yet can make big difference to overall performance & recovery, so it’s always good to occasionally re look at things and restructure if you’re not quite seeing the progress you’re wanting or feel you should be with the effort that you’re putting in :)))
