To date we are over a thousand members strong who participate in a number of winter sport disciplines, these are Alpine, Nordic, Snowboarding, Telemark, SkiMo and ice sports, which includes; Ice hockey, Luge, Skeleton and Bobsleigh. In the past we have had our athletes represent Great Britain in numerous disciplines at various Winter Olympics. Currently one of our athletes, Capt Jen Kehoe, is comp
eting on the World circuit as a Visually Impaired Guide to British Athlete, Menna Fitzpatrick. We have extremely strong links in the Stubai Valley, Austria, having been sending Alpine, Nordic and snowboarding teams to train and compete at Corps level for the past forty years. We encourage young Sappers and Officers alike to participate in the various sports as it is a great way to introduce winter sports and a pathway to competing at all levels of British Sport. Competing in these sports instills determination, courage, new skills, will to win, sportsmanship, family and community, strength and fitness in body and mind. We are an extremely successful organisation, providing Army and Tri-Service Teams with a disproportionately high number of athletes. We are partnered with Optima Group and Alpine Training Centre, two great organisations that believe in and enable our athletes to attain great success in Winter Sports. This year have had 15 athletes selected for Army teams, 5 athletes going to compete at the British Championships, 1 athlete competing on the FIS World Cup Circuit and 2 racing in the World Alpine and Nordic Championships. Last year witnessed new energy and enthusiasm that saw 750 Sappers participate in all disciplines.
