Why do we water the cricket square?💧 🏏
We’ve recently become aware that some questions have been raised regarding the watering of the cricket square on the Village Green during the current dry weather. We thought it would be helpful to provide a little context.
💧 The cricket club pays for all water used to maintain the cricket square. This is funded entirely by the club and does not come at any cost to the Parish Council or local taxpayers.
🌱 The square is maintained in accordance with ECB guidance. During periods of prolonged dry weather, careful watering is an essential part of pitch preparation, helping to provide a safe and playable surface for everyone taking part.
🏏 Water is applied only where it is needed and is carefully managed. The cricket square represents a very small area of the Village Green and is maintained separately from the outfield.
🤝 We are incredibly proud to play on our beautiful Village Green and are committed to looking after it for the benefit of both the cricket club and the wider community. Our volunteers dedicate hundreds of hours each year to maintaining the ground and ensuring it remains a welcoming space for all.
During periods of dry weather, watering cricket pitches that are in use continues to be permitted under health and safety exemptions, recognising the importance of maintaining safe playing conditions. We fully appreciate the importance of conserving water and therefore use it responsibly, following ECB best practice and only where it is genuinely necessary.
