Sunday saw the return of St Andrews to the green.
Skipper lost the toss and the opposition elected to bat first.

They got off to a good start and put on a 50 run partnership before a 2 wicket burst from Lewis Winnett helped us back into the game.
Sadly their number 4 was a level above where we play and he made a quick fire 50 which threatened to take the game away from us.
The introduction of three spinners saw us wrestle some control back in the middle to late overs, with 7 wickets falling between the skipper, Sam Hudson and Harry Fell, who finished with an impressive 3 for 9.
Special mention must go to David Ho**er, who was literally a last minute stand in, but at 75 still managed to look fitter in the field than anyone else and produce a lovely run out.
St Andrews finished on 199 all out a decent recovery from our fielding side.

After a decent start wickets tumbled at regular intervals as we struggled to build any meaningful partnerships, until Paul Sanderson and Peter Nicholson (who hit a lovely 39) forged a stand that stemmed the flow for a while.
Sadly it wasn’t to be and we were eventually bowled out for 121, a convincing defeat.

Thanks as always to our sponsors Sizzlers kitchen and to the wonderful warm home support we always receive. We have a weekend off for the Summer Fayre this Sunday - but next Thursday is a red letter day with our women playing the first ever home game in the clubs history.
Please come along and support us on what promises to be an amazing club day. You are all very welcome.

It wasn’t a triumphant return to Rudham, but a much improved all round performance showed how far our trailblazers have come in a just a month.
We lost the toss (again) and were put in to field. Debuts for Claire, Yaz and Audrey made for a new look side.
After a nervous start, our fielding was much better, with lots of good stops and relay throwing. Rach seemed determined to knock out their batters with her throwing at the stumps! 🀣
The bowling was fantastic, with Pen delivering a maiden and Audrey and Jess taking wickets; but all the bowlers were much sharper, with Fran again having a good performance here.
There were a few spilled chances, but the wind and the harder ball may have contributed to that and there was one athletic dive on the boundary by Yaz that brought loud applause from everyone.
Rudham closed their innings on 310 for 2.
After a hot dog or 2 (I had 2!) we went out to bat. Kat and Pen leading the way. Our running between the wickets was still a little tentative, but we were much better at not getting out!
Runs were evenly shared out and good partnerships all around (Jess and Amanda in particular) as we pushed our total past our previous score here.
There was humour as always from Hayley, who play or miss, seems to wander off out of her crease for reasons only she will understand! 🀣
Despite a valiant effort we fell short with our innings closing at 270/5. The Rudham women were quick to praise us for a much closer game and compliments abounded on how far we have come in such a short space of time. Rudham awarded Audrey, in her first game, player of the match and internally Aldborough voted on Pen being the star of the show. Which is brilliant for our young guns!
The game was played in a lovely spirit and we thank Rudham for being amazing hosts again.
We are home next Friday - for our first ever women’s game on the green. Come down and support us and help us celebrate this historic moment.
