No one really warns you about…….the September switch or you forget every year 😂

One minute it’s 100mph and your shoulders have been somewhere up around your ears since July…..Then suddenly, they drop slightly and you stop holding your breath 🙃

The coffee chats gets chattier, There’s a bit more dawdling before opening, there’s fewer paddleboard logistics to work out, fewer sandy wetsuits to wash and slightly fewer activity timetables to juggle. You can actually finish a sentence without the phone ringing.

And all those jobs we’ve been saying we’ll get done when it gets quieter…Apparently now’s the time.

Bad news for Captain Woods, Mrs AW has a list. 😬

WEEKEND FUN REPORT 💦

SATURDAY: Bright to start with light winds from the west to south-west, giving us nice calm conditions in the bay.

There’s some local wind swell around too and, with those lighter winds, what surf we do have should be fairly clean. Best time looks to be in the afternoon around the high tide at 3pm.

SUNDAY: There may be a bit of rain first thing, but it should clear through pretty quickly and it’s looking like a warm one.

The winds will strengthen from the south to south-east, which means the bay will get pretty bumpy as the day goes on.

There should still be some decent surf around for most of the day though, with the afternoon looking like the best time again.

And it’s the Surf Competition down at Porth Neigwl on Sunday! A brilliant day that brings together this incredible community of mini surfers, their families and our local surf shops. Get yourself down there and show them some support.

HIGH TIDES
Saturday: 2:07am / 2:42pm
Sunday: 3:24am / 4:08pm

Surf lessons, SUP lessons and tours, wing sessions and RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses are available to book.

Plus SUPs, surfboards, bodyboards and wetsuits available to hire from the shop.

Everyone’s doing their summer round-ups… so naturally, we’re not. Would you expect anything less?

For now, here’s Captain Woods, who started teaching windsurfing on Abersoch Beach with Bob (whoever Bob is) when he was 18.

That was BLEEP years ago…..can’t give his age away, but that’s a whole lot of windy sport experience.

And look… he even smiles when he’s doing what he kind of loves. Even if he’d rather be on the foil himself, wingy winging around the bay.

September has arrived, Abersoch Bay has suddenly got a whole lot quieter and there’s still plenty of wind and water to play with.

Captain Woods certainly isn’t packing away his wings just yet.

Summer round-up can wait, but it’s coming ✌️

To everyone who survived the sandy wetsuit summer… GO US!! 🙌

Wet, sandy, completely whiffy and ALWAYS needing turning inside out.

The mini water warriors have spent their Abersoch summer in and out of the sea… while we’ve perfected the sandy shake. 😂

Wouldn’t change it though.

We made it. Yay. Go us!! ✌️

When an email lands entitled ‘Surf Shop Hero’… 🏄‍♂️

This much-appreciated message dropped into our inbox after one of Eilir’s surf lessons this week:

“During our lesson, we saw that a dog had swum a fair distance from shore and seemed to be heading out to sea. The distraught owner was trying helplessly to save his dog, putting himself at risk in the process.
Eilir first checked that we were all OK, then paddled out to rescue the dog. HIs actions may well have saved both the dog and its owner from a very different outcome.

When he returned, he was as cool as any surfing dude and simply brushed it off as though it were an everyday occurrence.

Top bloke and genuinely nice human being.”

And we completely agree….
All summer, Eilir has been quietly trucking along with back-to-back surf lessons at Porth Neigyl, not just for us, but for too. Never complaining, just genuinely passionate about getting anyone and everyone surfing.

And when he’s not doing that, he’s in the deep depths of a house renovation, so there hasn’t been much downtime for him this summer either, well deserved recognition, Go Eilir 🙌

*He’ll hate this 😂 so show him some love in the comments if you’ve enjoyed one of his lessons ✌️

WEEKEND FUN REPORT 💦

SATURDAY:
A damp start, but it shouldn’t hang around and things should start to brighten up by mid-morning.

The bay will be a little lumpy first thing, before the wind drops and things flatten off through the day.

There should be waves around all day, looking best late morning into lunchtime once that wind eases.

SUNDAY:
Bright with light winds to start and a fairly calm bay through the morning.

The south-westerly wind picks up around lunchtime, so expect things to get a little choppier as the day goes on. There should be some surf around too, although that lunchtime breeze might mess it up a little.

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY:
Looking like the best of the bunch! Bright from the get-go with a westerly breeze.

The bay should be fairly calm, although the breeze could put a little chop on it. Plenty of surf around again, but it could be a little lumpy with that westerly wind.

HIGH TIDES
Saturday: 9:39am / 9:50pm
Sunday: 10:12am / 10:24pm
Monday: 10:46am / 11:00pm

Plenty of opportunities to get on the water with us, Get in touch to book surf lessons, SUP lessons and tours, wing sessions and RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses

Plus SUPs, surfboards, bodyboards and wetsuits available to hire from the shop.

Have a great weekend ✌️

WELL AND TRULY STUCK… 😂

SUP instructor James……..reigning SUP Race champion, arrived with minutes to spare. Knowing James, probably seconds.

He grabbed a lifejacket, wiggled himself into it and headed straight for the start line.

Race smashed. Title retained. 🏆

Then came the harder part… getting the ‘kids’ lifejacket back off.

A bit of panic, a dash of lifejacket claustrophobia and a LOT of laughing before he was finally free, without having to cut him out. 😂 Classic James.

At least he kept the title… although it was VERY close this year. 👀

Not your average morning coffee… ☕️🌈

Sunshine, rain, rainbows, croissants and coffee, with a side of Coach James on a strong brew and bringing the epic chat.

Sounds like the perfect morning to us.

Sunrise SUP Tours, the very best way to start an Abersoch day 💦

22/08/2026

Do you think he was in a hurry? 😂

We caught Captain Woods just as he’d finished work, the wind had arrived, the foil was being put together at record speed and apparently an interview was not part of his pre-foil plans. 🤣

He may be a little cross, but between the hurried answers and foil prep, there’s actually some useful stuff in there about why having a wing foiling lesson makes such a difference.

And if there’s one thing guaranteed to make Captain Woods smile after work, it’s a little fly around the bay here in Abersoch.

Timing is everything… 😂

WEEKEND FUN REPORT 💦

SATURDAY: Bright and sunny from the get-go, with light northerly winds keeping the bay flat and calm. Find a sheltered spot and it should feel lovely and warm too, a cracking day for boating, paddling and getting out on the water.

There should be some small surf around, best early morning or later in the afternoon around the high tides. They’re only small tides though, so timing shouldn’t make a huge difference.

SUNDAY: Even better, more sunshine, warmer temperatures and lighter winds, which should keep the bay really calm throughout the day.

And for the surfers… Sunday is looking good. Clean waves around all day with a little increase in size too, so plenty of opportunity to get in.

High tides:
Saturday: 3:50am / 4:39pm
Sunday: 5:18am / 5:58pm

A great weekend in store, with the warmer weather looking set to carry on into the start of next week too.

We’ve got surf lessons, SUP lessons and tours, coasteering, wing sessions and RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses available to book, plus SUPs, surfboards, bodyboards and wetsuits available to hire from the shop.

See you on the water ✌️
