Today, Saturday 12th April, saw the opening of the green for Season 2025 with a great turn out from our members blessed with fantastic conditions.

The honour of throwing the first jack of the season and getting us up and running fell to Nancy Mumford.

A big thankyou to the green staff for putting the hours in to having the green in such good condition.

After completing 14 ends and using the coaching aids and the obvious banter that ensued, it meant that the bragging rights were shared by both teams representing the President and Vice President.

A further thanks goes to Jac Fraser and Audrey Muir Podlinski for running the raffle and Moira Buchanan for keeping us all hydrated and organising the food.

I hope everyone enjoyed their day and wish you and the Club every success for the upcoming season.

As the dust settles after our annual friendly against our great friends from Craigentinny, I'm sure everyone involved had an enjoyable day.

With three pieces of silverware up for grabs and with Aberlady in custody of these for the last two years, the visitor's were confident that they could take them back up the town.

The bowling kicked off with six rinks playing 17 ends, the rink scores were as follows

Rink 1 - D. French 21 K. McFarlane 13
Rink 2 - W. Dunleavey 19 G. Bold 12
Rink 3 - G. White 17 D. Torrance 11
Rink 4 - C. Penman 13 J. Spalding 12
Rink 5 - Dean French 15 I. Patterson 12
Rink 6 - G. Blair 13 D. Gormley 15

Aberlady 98 Craigentinny 75

With our visitor's smarting after losing the first trophies of the day, they were given a stern talking too from their club president Kenny Watling ( in his unique way ) to get their finger's out !!

The team talk seemed to be working as the visitor's sped into a 4-2 lead after the completion of the one bowl pairs, corner to corner disciplines.

It was Aberlady's turn to regain focus and make the bowl count going into the singles format.

After the first 6 single duals Aberlady had levelled up proceedings at 6-6. It was going to take a massive effort from both set's of players to confirm the destination of the final trophy of the day.

The final 6 single head to head's were all won by the home team to complete a 12-6 victory in the cornerto corner event, cementing another clean sweep of of trophies.

Our visitor's, however, didn't go home empty handed, they did retain the dreaded wooden spoon trophy.

This day is always a highlight on the bowling calendar for both teams and is made even more special down to the friendships made over the year's.

For these day's to run smoothly, it takes a lot of work behind the scenes, the organising, effort and time. I would like personally to thank Moira, Laura, John, Amanda, Irene, Declan, Billy and all the other Club/Team members who assisted in the setting up, clearing up and ensuring that the day was successful.

Great effort guys, it's very much appreciated

Congratulations to Conner Aspinall on his victory in the "carried over" 2023 Youth Championship Final against Innes Maule.

Conner retains the youth title for a second consecutive season and will be hoping to make it 3 in a row in this season's competition.

Innes's time will come, as like all the youth members, has come on leaps and bounds over the last year.

Congratulations to both players and thanks to those who supported them.

A big thankyou to all the teams who took part in our annual Top 4 competition today. We were blessed with fantastic weather and honoured with our sponsor Chris from William Purves in attendance for closing stages and presentation.

Chris and William Purves Funeral Care have supported us for a number of years allowing us to host this event and we very much appreciated their continued support.

For the Club to host these competitions it takes a lot of effort from numerous individuals, a personal big thanks to Billy Dunleavey, Moira Buchanan, George & Joy McLeod, Maureen Thomson, Jackie Fraser, Graham Clark, Paul Mair, Lyle Bryce and Craig Gilholm without these individuals today wouldn't have been a success.

On the green, there were some fantastic bowling which made for two tight sections which led to the Fours of James Burnett, Rhys French, Jock Cowan and Ewan Armstrong winning through to compete in the semi finals.

After two very tight semi final Pars ties with both teams winning one and losing one and only one shot of a deficit, it was the 4's of Ewan Armstrong and James Burdett who earned the right to contest today's Final.

Again after some fantastic bowling and shot making it was the Single & Triple representing James Burnett who were victorious.

Commiserations to Ewan, Shaun, Lewis and Gareth on a great performance and congratulations to our winners Jamie, Kieran, Steven and James on a well deserved win.

Aberlady BC are absolutely delighted for our Ladies Four of Kate Cowan, Moira Buchanan, Amanda Robertson and Melissa Penman in winning an excellent Bronze Medal today after narrowly losing out to new National Champions from Buchan Park BC by one shot on an extra end in a high quality semi final.

Buchan Park went on to comfortably defeat reigning National and newly crowned British Isles Champions from Alloa in the final which shows how close our girls came to the Ultimate prize.

Every opponent since Wednesday evening's opener have been more experienced but our Ladies showed what they were lacking in years of experienced they certainly made up for with their fighting attitude and bowling ability.

A big thankyou to all the supporters who travelled to support both our Club representatives at Ayr and all the supportive and kind messages, these were very much appreciated.

Here's to repeating it all again at the National Finals 2023
