Abergele Golf Club has been long regarded as one of the most picturesque settings for the sport in Wales, yet the 18 holes themselves are both complex and challenging, providing a fabulous game for amateurs and professionals alike. Weather wise, the prevailing wind will add to the difficulty of the course, and there will be several holes where you will wish you could replay them again and again. T
here are many beauty spots across the course, giving you opportunity to take a moment and admire the wonderful views. For example, upon completing the 17th – gentle in comparison to some of the other courses in the locality – you can stand back and admire the distant views of Blackpool Pleasure Beach or, on a clear day, the Isle of Man some 70 miles away. With strategically placed bunkers to trap the unwary, many of the par 4 holes may prove challenging to newcomers. The par 5 holes of the course are renowned for their own distinct features. Early in the course, the 3rd has hazards both left and right, making it a good driving hole with its green cut into a ledge on the distant slope. At 580 yards, Abergele Golf Club boasts one of the longest holes in Wales, the 8th, which saw a recent transformation of its green, redesigned to ensure you accurately place your approach shot. Without a doubt, the signature hole at Abergele is the 18th, which will see you complete your round in front of a welcoming crowd on the balcony of the Clubhouse. One cannot advise on the best approach, however even the most experiences golfers may well exercise caution in order to protect a medal card. The 18th is likely to remain in the visitor’s mind for a very long time.
