PEOPLE OF THE MONMOUTHSHIRE GOLF CLUB.....……IESTYN TUCKER

One of the greatest Welsh amateur golfers of his generation called The Monmouthshire home.

Iestyn Tucker joined the club in 1947 and went on to represent Wales for 27 years. He was Welsh Amateur Champion in 1963 and 1966, Welsh Strokeplay Champion in 1976 and Gwent Amateur Champion 17 times.

He later became President of the Welsh Golfing Union and was chosen as The Monmouthshire’s Centenary Captain in 1992.

And that is only part of the story. We will be sharing more about Iestyn over the coming weeks.

A fantastic day of golf at The Monmouthshire Golf Club yesterday as our finalists battled it out for some of the club’s biggest honours.

From The Monmouthshire Archives: the series begins...

We have been digging into the history of The Monmouthshire Golf Club and there are some brilliant stories hidden in the club archives.

From the beginnings of the club in 1892 to famous members, old competitions, the changing course and the stories behind some of the trophies we still play for today.

Over the coming months we are going to start sharing them.

There’s over a century of golfing history beneath your feet at The Monmouthshire. ⛳

Our course was designed by five time Open Champion and renowned golf course architect James Braid.

His influence can still be seen and felt around the course today, with a layout that rewards good course management and continues to challenge golfers generation after generation.

The Monmouthshire is also a member of the Association of James Braid Courses, giving our members access to preferential green fee rates at participating Braid courses across the UK and Ireland.

A little bit of golfing history right here in Monmouthshire. 💚
