PENYDARREN 3-2 ABERFAN
A frustrating result for the 16s in our first game of the season, coming away with a 3-2 defeat to Penydarren.
The first 10 minutes we started okay, trying to feel our way into the game, and we took the lead from a corner. A cracking delivery from James caused chaos in the box and Luke reacted quickest to put us 1-0 up. ๐
Unfortunately, straight from the kick-off Penydarren hit back with a strike from the halfway line. ๐ฉ After taking the lead, we just didn't battle enough and found ourselves 3-1 down at half-time. The first half simply wasn't good enough from us and we were nowhere near the levels we know we're capable of.
At half-time, the message was simple โ go out and win the second half.
And to their credit, the boys did exactly that. ๐ช We created a number of chances but just couldn't find the net. Jaydon hit the post after showing great determination to win the ball, and then we were awarded a penalty after some good play from Harri, who was brought down in the box.
Unfortunately, Logan's penalty hit the post, but once again Luke was quickest to react, grabbing his second of the game to make it 3-2.
We pushed for an equaliser but unfortunately couldn't find that third goal. It's a little unfortunate not to get something from the game, but ultimately the first half cost us.
Massive well done to the boys for winning that second half like we asked them to. That's something we can build on going forward. Plenty to work on, but plenty of positives to take too. ๐
OPPOSITION MAN OF THE MATCH โ LUKE
Luke was asked to play in a number of different positions today and never stopped working for his teammates. A brilliant team performance capped off with 2 well-taken goals. ๐
SPECIAL MENTIONS
Jaydon โ Brilliant second half, caused Penydarren all sorts of problems down the left and was unlucky not to get himself on the scoresheet.
Logan โ Came on second half, battled brilliantly, got stuck in and tried to play the right way, moving the ball quickly.
Tavis โ Put in a proper captain's display, mopping up brilliantly and giving everything for the team.
Heads up lads โ learn from that first half, take the positives from the second and we build from here! ๐ช๐
