MOWI Challenge Cup Final - The Eilean, Newtonmore
Dunadd Ladies have been crowned MOWI Challenge Cup winners after an incredible 13-goal final at The Eilean in Newtonmore, defeating Aberdour 7-6 in one of the most thrilling cup finals imaginable.
Two superb sides produced a spectacular showpiece, with the lead changing hands throughout a breathless contest. Dunadd eventually prevailed, completing a remarkable cup double after lifting the Single Team Cup just three weeks ago.
The opening 15 minutes were relatively quiet, with both sides creating half-chances without finding a clear opening.
Aberdour 1-0 Dunadd
Aberdour opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Rebecca Thorington. Katie Booth carried the ball forward brilliantly before unselfishly picking out Thorington, who finished emphatically.
Aberdour 2-0 Dunadd
Thorington struck again seven minutes later, producing a fantastic solo effort to double Aberdour’s lead and complete her brace.
Dunadd responded strongly.
Aberdour 2-1 Dunadd
Iona McCulloch gave Dunadd a lifeline with a superb long-range effort. Taryn Neilson came close to saving it, but the ball found the back of the net.
Aberdour 2-2 Dunadd
Dunadd then levelled on the stroke of half-time, with their skipper producing a fantastic finish to send the teams into the break at 2-2.
The second half was every bit as dramatic.

Just five minutes after the restart, McCulloch doubled her tally to complete Dunadd’s comeback and put them ahead for the first time.
Aberdour 3-3 Dunadd
Aberdour responded immediately, with Katie Booth finding the equaliser just three minutes later.
Aberdour 4-3 Dunadd
Booth then struck again, firing a superb effort into the bottom corner to restore Aberdour’s lead.

Straight from the throw-up, Eilidh Cameron produced another of her trademark crackers to level the scores once more.
Aberdour 5-4 Dunadd
With around 10 minutes remaining, Thorington completed her hat-trick to put Aberdour back in front and leave them within touching distance of the trophy.
Aberdour 6-4 Dunadd
Aberdour appeared to take a decisive step towards victory when Matilda Ritchie produced a sensational strike to make it 6-4.
But Dunadd were not finished.
Aberdour 6-5 Dunadd
Cameron completed her hat-trick with a lovely low-driven finish past Neilson, bringing Dunadd back to within a goal.
Aberdour 6-6 Dunadd
Then came the equaliser. McCulloch completed her own hat-trick to bring Dunadd level at 6-6, having come back from two goals down.
With the final seemingly destined for extra time, there was still one last twist.

With just minutes remaining, Eilidh Cameron produced another incredible strike to put Dunadd ahead.
Having scored three unanswered goals, Dunadd had completed an extraordinary turnaround.
Aberdour pushed for one final response, but Dunadd held firm to secure the trophy.

An incredible MOWI Challenge Cup Final finished with 13 goals, three hat-tricks and countless twists and turns.
Dunadd Ladies have now added the MOWI Challenge Cup to the Single Team Cup they won just three weeks ago, completing a remarkable run of success.
For Aberdour, there was heartbreak after coming so close, but they can be immensely proud of their performance in an unforgettable final.
