What do you call a group of talented, driven and exceptional young people who come together through a shared passion, support one another through every challenge, celebrate each other's successes, and build friendships that will last a lifetime?

We call it Ultimate Judo.

Last Friday, our Academy family came together to celebrate the graduation of another incredible group of students. Parents were treated to presentations from our recent trip to Japan, filled with stories, laughter, shared experiences and memories that will stay with us forever.

The Judo Academy has always been about more than throwing techniques and competition results. It's about personal growth, resilience, respect and belonging. It's about finding your people; those who will encourage you when things are tough, celebrate with you when things go well, and stand beside you for years to come.

Watching these young people grow together, support one another and form lifelong
bonds is one of the greatest privileges of what we do.

A huge thank you to for providing the food. They've been a favourite of our family since moving here 14 years ago, and helped make the evening even more special.

To our graduates, thank you for the memories, the laughs and the inspiration. Be proud of everything you've achieved. Your journey doesn't end here—it is only just beginning.

To our sponsors, the trip would not have been what it was without you all.

Ultimate Judo. More than a club. More than a sport. A family. 🥋❤️🇯🇵

Last chance everyone.

What a fantastic day for the club at the Granite City Grand Prix on Saturday, expertly run by our friends at Aboyne Judo Club.

With 25 judoka representing the club, we came away with an impressive 7 medals. More importantly, we saw a fantastic mix of athletes taking to the mat. Some were competing for the very first time, while others were chasing the final points needed for black belt promotion.

Every single competitor showed heart, courage and determination throughout the day. There was some outstanding judo on display, and we couldn't be prouder of the effort and attitude shown by everyone.

Competition brings a unique kind of pressure, and the only way to learn how to deal with those situations is to experience them. For some, the nerves were difficult to manage, but they still stepped onto the mat, competed and gave their best. That takes courage, and that's how we grow.

It was also brilliant to see so many members of the club come along to support their teammates throughout the day. Whether you were competing or cheering from the sidelines, you played a part. That's what being part of a team is all about – supporting each other, celebrating successes and helping one another through the challenges.

We're incredibly proud of everyone who represented the club. Well done all!

Another busy weekend ahead for the club! 🥋

Tomorrow, alongside our regular junior classes, we have an incredible 27 members competing at the local Grand Prix event at Aberdeen Sports Village, organised and hosted by our friends at Aboyne Judo Club. We have competitors ranging from young competitors stepping onto the contest mat for the very first time, right through to experienced judoka chasing valuable points towards their Dan grades.

As a result of the competition, there will be no senior class on Saturday, as many of our coaches and players will be supporting the event.

If you're looking for something to do, head along and support the team – spectating is completely free of charge! We wish all of our competitors the very best of luck and hope they enjoy the experience.

On Sunday, the club hosts its second dedicated Nage-no-Kata course of the year at the dojo. Sixteen local judoka will spend the day learning the finer details of this important kata, developing their understanding and technical knowledge.

Our first course earlier this year was a huge success, with many participants continuing to practise kata weekly at the dojo ever since. We're looking forward to another productive day of learning and development.

Good luck to everyone competing, and enjoy the kata course on Sunday! 👊🥋

We’re proud to give a shoutout to Tak a Beat ADHD Counselling, founded and run by one of our own — Keith Hobbs.

Keith brings something you can’t fake: real life experience.

Living with ADHD and Autism himself, and only recently receiving his diagnosis, Keith knows first-hand the battles, frustrations and challenges that many people face every single day. Instead of hiding from that journey, he’s using it to help others.

What makes Keith different is that he understands support doesn’t stop with the individual. Living with ADHD and Autism can affect the whole family support unit — parents, partners, children, siblings and relationships at home. Keith works to support not just the person, but the people around them too.

His approach comes from lived experience, honesty, understanding and a genuine passion to support people like he himself was fortunate enough to receive.

He’s not some polished corporate expert pretending to understand — he’s a local loon with a big heart who genuinely cares about helping his community.

If you or someone you know is struggling with ADHD or Autism, give Tak a Beat a look. Keith might just be the person who helps things finally make sense.

Please give the page a follow and show some support ❤️

Last week was a busy one for Ultimate Judo! 🥋

We spent 5 days at Cults Academy introducing the S1 year group to judo as part of their Activities Week. We’ve been working with Cults Academy for several years now and it’s always a brilliant week, with the students bringing great energy, effort, and attitudes to the sessions.

A big thanks as well to Tristan, who helped coach throughout the week in between sitting his exams

Back at the club, we also ran our first ever dedicated “Bring a Friend Week” — and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Over the course of the week, 45 friends came along to try judo, with many now joining the club as new members. It was great to see so many new faces on the mat and such a positive atmosphere across all classes.

To top things off, we also launched the first wave of our new club merchandise, including:
🧢 Caps
💧 Water bottles
🧼 Hand towels
…with more still to come.

A very busy week all round, but a hugely positive and productive one for the club. Thanks to everyone who supported it! 👊
