After a long summer break, it was great to get the Quines back out on the pitch & the first half was full of some wonderful football against Buckie Ladies U14s.
It was a particularly special day for Abbie E, Anna and Macy, all playing their first match for the Quines. All 3 put in a tremendous shift, with Abbie marking her debut with a goal! 🎉
The bobbly home pitch provided plenty of unusual bounces, but the girls adapted well. Lucy McL expertly handled the first-half goalkeeping duties, while Ida, our magnificent right back, was her usual steady and assured presence within the team.
Lucy McK powered around the pitch with some excellent tackles and clearances, while both Emilys worked brilliantly together in defence, with Emily B also providing plenty of guidance from the centre.
Further forward, Macy made life difficult for her Buckie opponent, while Anna did a great job fending off her opposite number. Meghan had a couple of shots on target and kept troubling the Buckie keeper, while Breagha came agonisingly close with some fantastic curling free kicks.
Silvi and Abbie made a difference every minute they were on the pitch with some great running and passing, but sadly both had to come off injured.
With no regular goalkeeper, Eilidh bravely shared the goalkeeping duties and came on for the 2nd half, both GKs made some good saves. We were plagued by injuries today - at one point we were down to just 10 players, so huge credit to everyone who kept battling — and we hope all those nursing knocks recover quickly.
With injuries taking their toll, being down to 10 players, tiredness crept in and our heads dropped a little, allowing Buckie to take control and eventually run out 4-1 winners.
The scoreline doesn't quite reflect the positives, though. There was lots to be proud of, especially that excellent first half, and a fantastic effort from everyone who pulled on the Quines shirt today.
Well done, girls — heads up and on to the next one! ⚽💛🖤
Thanks for travelling down to play us Buckie & good luck with the rest of the season!
