Staying on home waters, ASRA competed at North-East Regatta which is held over 750m. We were very lucky as we had blue skies majority of the weekend with minimal wind. After trialing at Inverness head in March, 23 ASRA athletes were selected to represent Scotland in the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta at Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham. Whilst some crews were all ASRA, a couple of the athletes joined with other Scottish clubs to make composite crews, gaining good experience rowing with other members from different clubs.

Our O J16 2- Sandy B and Nicol M put on an outstanding performance winning silver in their event, and were only 1.4 seconds off of gold. This was their second lane race in the pair so it will be interesting to see what else they can do this season.

Our O J15 4+ which included Henry J, Blair C, Saif K, Angus S and cox Kate P secured a middle place in the A final after the time trial and placed overall 4th in the final.

Following these results, the remainder of the crews put out brilliant performances in the B/C finals.

Overall, it was another successful weekend for ASRA and some great racing on lovely water for the athletes. Thank you everyone for helping out and for the weekend.

In the first week of the Easter holidays, ASRA went on their yearly training camp to start preparations for the lane racing season ahead. This year, ASRA returned to the small town Kruszwica, Poland where they have held the last 2 previous camps.

ASRA were thrilled to take a total of 47 athletes varying from J14-J18. Alongside the athletes, 10 coaches were spread out between each age group for the week, developing their technique alongside racing knowledge.

Big thanks to all coaches and volunteers for making this week happen once again and giving ASRA the chance to take a larger number of athletes across. Also a well done for the athletes who participated in the very heavy week of training! Time for a small rest and to continue preparing for the exciting summer season ahead! 🏳️☀️

The following day after schools head, ASRA made club history with our first ever full club eight competing in the Women’s Eights Head of the River Race - the largest women’s rowing race in the world, with around 3000 athletes competing on the 7km course in one afternoon.

The crew consisted of:
Bow: Cara F
2: Raisa O
3: Hope T
4: Mackenzie P
5: Mac M
6: Gabz T
7: Ines DK
Stroke: Lottie M
Cox: Lily A

The girls started 281st and put in the work to climb up the rankings and place 67th/325 overall and 8th out of 32 Junior crews.

ASRA also had lots of FPs racing the course which was amazing to see and an amazing experience to watch such high level rowers race down the course.

Thank you to everyone for making this weekend possible and massive congratulations to the girls who competed! Stay tuned for what’s next at ASRA!!! 🤍🖤
