Aberdeen Medics Rugby Football Club is a student run rugby club within the medical school. We pride ourselves on being a rugby team in our own right with weekly training and Saturday league matches. We also offer the opportunity to play in the annual Scottish medical school sports competition played every October and our annual Doctors vs Students match every November. The AMRFC offers a great soc

ial scene to all its members and promises a high level of rugby whilst giving members the feeling they belong in the club from the outset.

MATCH REPORT

The medics go 2/2 for the second half of the season. After 4 long weeks of waterlogged pitches the boys were finally able to get a run out on Saturday against Turriff. From the get go, the intensity in defence saw the boys placing sustained pressure on Turriff in their own half. A combination of greasy conditions and lack of game time meant a few early scoring opportunities were missed, however it was not long after that Noah opened the scoring with a run in down the touchline. The medics then found their stride, running in multiple tries with slick offloads and good carries. The forwards scrummed well, forcing free kicks and allowed the backs to play with some good momentum. We went into the half 35+ points up, determined to maintain the pace of play and keep the scores ticking over. With the bench coming on early in the second half, the tries kept coming and a fantastic defensive display kept Turriff scoreless through 80 mins. The focus now shifts towards Garioch away next weekend which is always a close fixture.

It’s the start of December, the end to Movember and the boys months attempts at a furry upper lip has come to a close.

Almost every boy stuck it out to the end (some shaved it off halfway ) resulting in a total of ÂŁ331 raised!

MATCH REPORT: AMRFC vs DEESIDE

The Medics take the win after a tightly contested game at Kings. A strong start and multiple silly penalties given away by the Medics give Deeside the first try of the game, before quickly striking back with a turnover on the halfway leading well worked try in the corner for Bevan, with the conversion going over to make it 7-5 to the good guys. A few more penalties given away and some forward carries in the Medics’ 22 lead to Deeside scoring again under the posts. 12-7. Three unanswered penalties by Alex put the Medics one point ahead going into the final 20 mins with the Medics playing some free flowing rugby, leading to Sam breaking the line and scoring under the posts. Some sloppy defense allow Deeside to score from a halfway line scrum, and the resulting conversion brings the game back to a one score lead. Despite this, the Medic’s grit in defense for the final 10 minutes keeps Deeside out and we take the win 23-19.

MATCH REPORT AMRFC vs TURRIFF

The medics take a bonus point win away from Turriff after a strong first half set the tone. Tries from Kieran and Oli, plus a first half double from MOTM Flynn Malcolm, raced the medics into a 28 point lead, with stand-off Alex converting all the scores. A try either side of the half from Turriff took the score to 28-10, just before the heavens opened. The conditions suited Turriff’s strong carrying game, but some resilient defending from the medics kept them scoreless for the rest of the game. Two second half tries from Oli took the score to 38-10 at the full time whistle.

MATCH REPORT AMRFC vs WANDERERS 18/10/25

The medics started off strong, pinning wanderers in their own half drawing an early penalty which was knocked over from No.10 Alex. Shortly after the restart, the medics made their way back into the wandies half with space opening up on the flank for Geordie to run one in. 10-0 medics. The lead was short lived as a couple easy tries were slipped past the defence. 14-10. Wanderers score early in the second half but the medics respond with a penalty infront of the posts, capitalised by Alex once again. 21-13. Momentum, however shifts back to wanderers and they carry it up into the medics half. They go to ship the ball wide but good line speed from Murray at 12 forces a loose pass which is intercepted by Robbie to make it a 1 point game. Unfortunately, the intent in defence dropped off and Wanderers ran away with the game in the closing 15 minutes. A tough loss to take, but plenty of lessons learned and the boys move on to the next one.

PRESIDENT - SCOTT MCDOWALL
Mr Scoog, hailing from Kilmarnock, is the man in charge for this year. After transitioning from 9 to 10, he’s become quite the reliable player come match day. No doubt he’ll have to get some antihypertensives after reaching his stress limits for the year within the first month.

VICE PRESIDENT - RORY GRANT
Rozza. The man that would drop everything for a cold pint of apple juice. Looking after Scoog and his stress levels for the year is light work for our celiac friend. When he’s not crashing it up in the centres, you can find Rory working on his slice at the range.

CHARITY SECRETARY - BRAXTON MCGUIRE
Young Pablo or Toothless, take your pick. Braxton is our charity man for the year. He’s off to a flyer having been “heavily involved” in the clubs first fundraising event of the year. In fact, Braxton is so generous he even donated his front tooth to a freshers head in the first training session of the year. In his spare time Braxton loves fishing for said tooth.
