Was lucky enough to see some of the international masters teams play on Aberdeen turf this weekend! Great to see so many supporters travelling from the 4 nations buzzing about the place, even nicer to speak to spectators and family members of the players on the sidelines too. Looks to be a good weekend of hockey 🏑 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇮🇪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

A deceptively sunny but cold evening at Countesswells, where the Aberdeen 2s were to play their last match of the season against Gordonian’s 3s.
It was off to an excellent start for AHC as Callum L took an open opportunity to drive the ball past the Gordonians goalie, within minutes of pushback. Gordonian’s reset & after 5 minutes an unmarked player passed the unsuspecting defence & neatly tucked the ball into the open goal. Waves of passes from the backs upfield for both sides, but the score remained 1-1 by the end of the first quarter. Gordonian’s seemed confident with clinical set ups allowed the yellows to flood the AHC D. Calum S was quick to respond & stopped the ball going over the line. Less than 2 minutes later, a poor AHC pass resulted in Gordos charging through the defence to score their second goal.
Further attempts were made but lessons learned, Finn was ready and blocked down other potential goals before it was too late. Half time 2-1.
The second half saw better marking and formed approach from AHC, they had a plan, & they stuck with it. Gordonian’s held much of the possession. A green card for the yellows, offered an opportunity for AHC to regain control before the end of the third quarter, without merit.
In the last quarter, AHC made some good ground with Calum S, Jack & Lawrence driving the ball high, only for their efforts to be foiled at the last hurdle . Gordo’s retaliated and had a last attempt on the goal line, only for a cheeky AHC put down resulting in a PC. A five man charge was enough to defeat the first striker & subsequent attempts on goal. A scramble to recover and recycle the ball out, as the final whistle blew.

Goal scorer: Callum L
POTM: Calum S

Scott shared “Huge effort from at the AHC2s in what could’ve easily been a whitewash result, playing with no GK. We played a tight and compact press which frustrated our opponent & made us hard breakdown. The extra body in the midfield opened up the game for us & allowed for some chances on the break. Snatching a quick goal inside 5mins from the start really gave us the confidence to play as a team. Credit to everyone for a stellar defensive effort & for putting in the yards!”
