Exciting Update from the Abercynon War Memorial Pool Committee
We’re pleased to announce that the committee has recently welcomed several new members, bringing with them a wide range of skills and experience to help drive the project forward.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve held our first committee meetings and have also met with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to discuss the future of the Abercynon War Memorial Pool.
We know how much this facility means to so many people in our community. Unfortunately, the condition of the pool and its infrastructure meant the facility had to close several years ago. Since then, it has continued to deteriorate and now requires significant investment and extensive work before it can be brought back into use. This won’t be a quick fix, but we’re committed to exploring every opportunity to bring this much-loved community asset back into use.
The committee is currently exploring the most sustainable long-term solution for the site, including the potential to transform it into a modern, accessible splash pad that would provide a safe, inclusive facility for future generations while respecting the history of the War Memorial Pool.
Our immediate priorities are to:
* Strengthen the charity with new trustees and volunteers.
* Work with the Council on the legal arrangements needed to move the project forward.
* Explore design options and obtain specialist advice.
* Develop a funding strategy to secure the investment needed.
This is the beginning of what we know will be a long journey, but we now have a dedicated team with the enthusiasm and experience to lead the project.
We’ll keep the community updated as plans progress, and we’d like to thank everyone for their continued support and encouragement.
If you’d like to support the project, whether through volunteering, fundraising or sharing ideas, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we can help shape the future of this much-loved community asset.
