A NEW JANITOR IS CREATED AS THE KHARADE KID GOES FULL WAX ON WAX OFF IN 74 BALL 130 RUN ASSAULT
The 2nds managed a third consecutive victory again something not seen since June 2023 against 6th placed Penarth at St Cyres School ground, Losing the toss the host captain elected to bowl putting us in on another artificial astro track this one treated well with fertiliser or better known as bird s**t. The evergreen Paul Farkas and Peter "5 cars" Lee opened the batting toiling for 10 overs putting on 26 for the 1st wicket, Enter the dragon or should I say the Kharade kid. The wild Hungarian Farkas met his new partner and said have look at it kid. Su looked at it alright as the first ball sailed over the boundary for a huge six towards the athletics track and replied "Balance learn balance balance good Kharade good Everthing good" With the Kharade kid in full swing carnage ensued and the next 11 overs saw 118 runs added to the total. Farkas had gone for a quality 35 Kharade had gone to 50 in 25 balls. Ben Skuse in the 2nds (to accommodate clubber Hopkins night on the beer apparently wearing joop has he been in his fathers wardrobe?) he played his role backing up the carnage followed by the young Harvey Parsons who made a superb 28 not out. Suhas got to his maiden century in 48 balls finishing with 130 off 74 and the team score 237 for 6 off 40 but was it going to be enough.
The next 40 overs was to show effort and commitment from every player that a captain can only dream of, Every player stood to man and played a part, Penarth had raced to 52 in 5 overs despite the tight bowling of the ever injured Rob Harrison 8 overs for 27 but up stepped young Harvey with some flight and guile to beat the bat and with superb glove work by the keeper stumping the opener like a junior Jack Russell things got underway, Shortly followed by a superb throw in from the Kharade kid the keepers safe glovework led to a run out to boost the cause. At drinks Penarth had got to 105-3 soon to be 110-4 before the wicket keeper was joined by the the opening bowler who decided to make up for his economy rate with the ball with his bat. With 5 overs to go and only 25 needed the statement was made "its only 5 an over its easy on here now the pressures on you" Angelo got involved I lost my voice telling him to shut up and everyone else was now fired up. Remember the words of the Mr Miyagi "Man who catch fly with chopsticks accomplish anything". with the original Janitor Hughes bowled out it was crunch time , Mr Miyagi had Daniel Russo Mr Hibbs has Kye Parsons cometh the hour cometh the Ice kid, His first ball was top edged caught by the keeper and wicket number 5 down whilst the other a more grumpy Janitor called Scouse was stoking the school boilers down the other end. By the final over the hosts needed 9 runs to win with a dot ball and a single it was 8 from 4 next ball was hit high and long and caught on the boundary. 8 from 3 with a single it was 7 from 2 the next ball was a calamity of errors with run outs missed at both ends 2 runs a verbal roasting from the janitor and 5 from the last ball required young Scouse bowled the ball the batter swung for all he was worth edged it behind to safe hands of the keeper wicket number 9 and a victory by 4 runs. A superb performance in the field by the 2nds not seen in a lifetime, catches being held all around the field Farkas, Suhas and Harvey, Angelo fielding in close as if his life depended on it stopping everything giving no singles and the Scouse Janitor running in the from the boundary to field the legside glances that the keeper decided to have a cuppa and watch thinking they were going further than they did. the Verve Cliqo of champagne award could go to any number of players Kye Parsons for his match changing wicket Jeff Scouse for his 4 wickets in 11 balls, the wonderful keeper for his 2 catches a stumping and run out. But the panel awarded it to Suhas for his 130 his boundary catch and throw leading to the run out. Every person stood to be counted and for 5 wickets to fall in the last 3.5 overs it was Abercarn who held up under pressure Still in 4th place and next week we entertain our old friends Crumlin at the Welfare UPTHECARN
