The third game of the season saw Thoiry CC facing arch rivals Aulnay CC in Aulnay Sous-Bois. Once again the toss lost by Thoiry under Danny was asked to bat first. Thoiry saw some changes in the likes of Tabreez and Hammad back to the side after two long years. Hassan and Samir opened the batting. The second ball of the match saw a crazy call from both players seeing Samir runout without even facing a single delivery pushing back a set and confident Thoiry in the very first Over. In walked Mr. dependable of Thoiry Siva who looked to steady the innings with Hussan. The opening bowling of Aulnay had Thoiry line up in check by bowling some good line and lengths. Both Siva and Hussan looked to play the ball on merit and build a partnership. Siva looked to control the innings by playing his trademark drive to the covers and was eventually caught at mid-off trying to loft the ball over covers scoring a well-paced and balanced score of 18 runs to slowly row Thoiry ahead. A confident and fit Hammad walked in playing some good well timed shots with Hussan his partner. Soon Hussan trying to flick a low full tossed delivery was caught at midwicket after scoring 8 runs. Here on Thoiry saw some reckless batting from the middle overs that saw several wickets tumbling at both ends. The ever confident and heroes of the last game both Ali and Kesara looked to bail out Thoiry once again. Ali scoring a boundary of his first ball with a straight drive played some ambitious shots soon saw Danny at the crease with Thoiry reeling at around 78 for 8 at around the 20th over of the innings. Aulnay having their tails up were looking to clean the wagging tail of Thoiry innings by applying some serious pressure. Both Kesara and Danny looked to play the remaining overs and push the score to a respectable total. At the middle of the 29th over with a close single saw the end of a well patient knock from Kesara. In walked the last batsmen in Tabreez. Skipper Danny looking to up the tempo scored 11 before trying to loft a spinner towards midwicket fell to a badly timed shot. Thoiry bowled out in around 30 overs for a very moderate total of 99 runs leaving a modest chase of 100 to the opponent’s in a very tricky pitch to handle and face with.

Thoiry’s pace attack of Kesara and Tabreez bowled with pure pace and immaculate line and length which troubled Aulnay’s openers. Kesara bowled accurately who picked two wickets in succession looking to take a hattrick was severely disappointed on his third try for a lbw decision that looked dangerously close. The decision turned down by the umpire saw Amal the old horse from Aulnay at the crease. Amal looked in control and guided Aulnay to negotiate well both the pace and spin attack of Thoiry scoring a well-paced 47* innings to guide Aulnay to their first win against Thoiry this season. Thoiry seeing its first loss of the season. Top performers for Thoiry was no doubt once again Kesara with an all-round performance with the bat and ball and Siva with a top score of 18. Congrats to Aulnay Cricket Club for convincingly beating a confident and in form Thoiry side.

Thoiry faced Standard Athletic Cricket Club in Standard for its second consecutive away game. Once again the toss lost by Danny and SACC deciding to bat first. Thoiry welcomed back David, Hussan and Kesara back to the squad. SACC star studded with some Colombes players began their innings in an aggressive fashion scoring nearly 12 from the first over from Kesara. How ever Thoiry’s opening bowling pair of both Kesara and Azeem began bowling some good lengths to trouble the opening pair of the opponent’s. Siva at first slip took an exceptional diving left hand catch to dismiss the openers of Kesara bowling. This catch highly motivated Thoiry on the field for the rest of the innings. Kesara continued to bowl and finish his full quota of 7 overs conceding 37 runs and picking 1 wicket. The first spell change saw a confident Ali bowling his off spins picking up wickets immediately. His line and length were immaculate and troubled the SACC batting line up. On the other end Sathish complemented Ali by finally bowling some slow flighters that also tempted the opponent batsmen. Soon Ali was the pick of the bowlers picking up 4 wickets in his 7 overs conceding 27 runs. An excellent performance by Ali to stop the opponents from piling up a big score. On the 29th over bowled by Azeem the last batsmen were clearly bowled by an aggressive Yorker to bowl out SACC for 155. A perfect combination of both spin and pace combined with some excellent teamwork saw the opponents bowled out in some perfect conditions to bat first with.

Thoiry started its chase with a confident boundary of its first ball of the innings by Danny who just managed to score 4 by nicking the 5th ball of the first over to a wide delivery playing a wild shot. In walked a steady and confident Kesara who steadied Thoiry’s innings like a wall with Vijai the other opener. Soon Vijai bowled by an excellent Yorker saw Ali at the crease. Thoiry once again facing some tremendous pressure due to some medium accurate seam bowling. Both Ali and Kesara steadied the ship by defending and leaving the good deliveries based on the merit of each delivery guiding Thoiry steadily on. The pair dented the new ball and tired the opponents by scoring regularly singles, twos and the odd boundary’s. Ali was patient initially and started to score quickly in his own elegant and classy fashion while Kesara complimenting Ali with his perfect defence and technique. The opponents tried virtually everything to dismantle the partnership but both batsmen played exceptionally well to tire out the opponents and steer Thoiry to an exceptional win on the 26th over with a six from Kesara. Ali top scored with 95* and Kesara 45*. What an exceptional and motivating partnership to seal the second consecutive win of the season. Man of the match for an exceptional all round performance goes without a doubt to Ali and the champagne moment for Siva’s exceptional game changing diving catch at slip.

Thoiry’s 2020 season kicked off last Saturday against Aulnay-sous-Bois with an away game. The team was lead by Danny. The toss was won by Aulnay who did not hesitate to bat first. The opening bowling combination of both Dilip and Azeem started of by picking wickets immediately. Azeem picked up the first wicket of the season by a well placed slip catch by our club president Pragash waiting at second slip Azeem continued with his brutal pace bowled quick and had some lethal bounce that troubled the batsmen. On the other hand Dilip bowled his usual line and length soon his took his first wicket too after missing some drop chances. Captain brought 2 bowling changes and immediately Sathish and Pragash troubled the opponent with their good line and length. Pragash the pick of the bowlers took 3 wickets, while Sathish, Azeem and Mahathir took 2 wickets each and for Dilip 1 wicket leaving Aulnay all out for 97 in around 22 overs. A small but tricky target left for Thoiry to chase.

The chase started of for Thoiry with Vijay and Mahathir opening the batting. Vijay looking to hit every ball out of the park while Mahathir looked to guide the innings. Mahathir fine pull short resulting in a six soon saw his wicket to a very similar delivery. Soon wickets started to fall in quick succession, as Thoiry were around 24 for 4 wickets down. Siva steadied the ship with both Mani and Samir playing of the good deliveries and looking to score singles and doubles. The scoreboard kept slowly moving while wickets kept falling. However Siva top scored with 17 and other batsmen looking to play around him saw Thoiry close to the target. Finally Pragash steered Thoiry to a win with the last batsmen Azeem on the crease. Finally despite all the drama and wickets lost Thoiry registers it’s first win of the season. Credit goes to all members who played this game for a well-balanced team effort.
