So spawning is over for this year we think but unfortunately it's taken its toll. I simply hate losing fish and after owning the lake for 11 years now it never gets any easier. The other thing that makes it difficult is with so many big fish in the lake when you do lose them, they're generally... Big!
Today we found the Tiger fish had passed, along with another fish I'm yet to identify. Totally gutted. She made 60+ for the first time this spring and now she's gone. I try to be upbeat when we lose fish but it's really pi**ed me off this time. The amount of effort and hard work that goes into everything, closing the lake to rest the fish, carp care etc but still unfortunatley, nature prevails..
I know we have lots of fish in the 40 and 50 brackets with two commons very close to 60lb but it doesn't make it any less stressful.
New fish will quickly come through but if I've learnt anything from having a French lake it's that nothing stays the same for long and that includes how long these big fish stay at the top for. It's very different to how long big fish in the UK gravel pits I grew up fishing hang around for.
We are closed at the moment, resting the fish, supplementary feeding and soon we will be upgrading the track across the dam wall so no more ruts and tyre marks.
We have lots of you booked in from August onwards, so we look foward to seeing you. As usual we will keep you all up to date with developments around the fishery over the next few weeks.
Cheers
RIP Tigerfish
