April 8th, International Roma Day — a time to celebrate the rich culture and heritage of the Roma people, while also acknowledging the discrimination they have faced throughout history and still experience across the globe.
Personally, I have great admiration for the Roma people's strength in preserving their cultural and linguistic legacy, despite the prejudice they have had to confront. In a world where globalization and the dominance of mainstream cultures often erode local identities, safeguarding one’s roots is a powerful act of resilience. The Roma have sustained their distinct identity for generations, and for that, they have my deepest respect.
I am grateful for the decades of collaboration I've shared with Romani communities worldwide, and I look forward to continuing this meaningful work for years to come.
