💜 International Women’s Day 2026

Across Australia, more women than ever are discovering the joy of walking football.

Participation has more than doubled in the past 12 months, with women joining the sport at every stage of life, especially in the 60+ age group.

From grassroots hubs to national tournaments, the opportunities for women to play, compete and connect continue to grow.

Throughout 2026, walking football events across the country will bring women together to play in competitions within their own age groups while celebrating the inclusive spirit of the game.

âš˝ The game is growing.
âš˝ The competition is improving.
âš˝ And more women are joining the walk.

Walking Football in Australia continues to grow, across communities, across states, and onto the international stage.

As the game matures, important conversations are happening globally about the future of the Laws of the Game and how Walking Football can be aligned to support long-term growth.

The FA and the Walking Football Association in England have opened a survey to gather feedback from players, referees, coaches and administrators.

While this is an England-led process, the outcomes may influence broader international discussions, so it makes sense for us in Australia to stay informed and engaged.

If you’re involved in Walking Football at any level, I encourage you to take a few minutes to share your perspective.

This was the first Walking Football Australia page and was created in April 2020 with one simple purpose: to provide a central place where players from every corner of the country could connect, share, and see what was happening in this exciting new sport, both here at home and around the world.

In those early days, we recognised a national association would one day be needed to bring all forms of Walking Football together. That vision helped pave the way for the creation of the Walking Football Federation Australia (WFFA).

Although access to this original FB page was lost for a time, we’re thrilled to have it back. Our goal now is to rebuild it into a vibrant, helpful and inclusive hub for everyone involved in Walking Football, players, hubs, coaches, supporters, and newcomers discovering the game for the first time.

In the interim we created the community forum group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/wffaforum

This page will grow with you. We’ll be working steadily to update, refine, test and develop it into a reliable national resource that showcases the spirit, stories and progress of Walking Football across Australia.
