Zindabad đź—»
In June 2025, French alpinist and Pakistani climber .din opened a new route on Spantik (7,027 m). Zindabad documents this unique expedition, combining exploration, human challenges and harsh mountain conditions. But the film is also a deeply human and political story, inviting a new generation of Pakistani climbers to draw their own lines, on their own terms.
Mueez Ud Din grew up in Hunza, in the remote mountains of northern Pakistan, a region home to one of the highest concentrations of great peaks on Earth. As a child, he listened to stories from his uncles, climbers who worked on foreign expeditions, about the mountains towering above their homeland. Their first ascents had almost always been made by foreigners — never by Pakistanis.
In Zindabad, Mueez teams up with his uncle and mentor Javed Ali, alongside French alpinist Mathieu Maynadier, to open a new route on the highest 7,000-metre peak visible from his bedroom window. Venturing into an unexplored glacier, they face unstable weather, avalanche-prone slopes and the challenges of a committed ascent with rudimentary equipment, a first for Mueez.
But this expedition represents far more than a simple line on a map...
