Hello Strollers

Please excuse the delay for sending out the minutes of the AGM held on Sunday 27th February 2022.

Meeting called to order by President at 13:07, attendees:

Anton, President
Tariq, Vice President and Fixture Secretary
Gaenor, Treasurer
Gopal, Committee Member

Nick Gould, ex Committee Member

President expressed his disappointment in the low attendance of current members at the meeting.

1. Financial Statement: The clubs finances looks stable, statements were handed out to attendees.
2. 2021 Season overview: Less games played in than 2020, but commitment from players were not enough. Too many players made themselves available for games, the either did not show up, or cancelled on the morning of the game. Many players also arrived late for games, which is unacceptable, especially for home games, when you arrive after the game Start time.
3. Equipment: Club equipment was inspected, and counted, list was shared with attendees, no new equipment needed for 2022.
4. Club clothing: We still have 2 sets of Strollers kits left, one XL and one Large, it consist of white short sleeve shirt and trousers (white) a blue cap and blue sweater. Cost is 40euros, contact Anton if you are interested. No new clothing will be ordered in 2022.
5. Committee Structure
a. Tariq stepped down from the committee as VP and Fixture Secretary, Anton thanked him for the great work he did as Fixture Secretary, and his commitment to the club. Tariq’s enthusiasm will be missed.
b. Gopal was voted in as new Vice President.
c. Harish was voted in as new Secretary.
d. Anton and Gaenor indicated that they wanted to resign from the committee as well, but due to the lack of attendees, no new committee members could be voted in their place. Anton and Gaenor will stay on the committee for 2022, in their current roles.
e. Tariq’s resignation brings the current committee member numbers down to 5, by law a club should have minimum 6 members. This leaves the Strollers with an incomplete committee
6. Future of the Strollers : During 2021 the commitment, attendance and involvement of most players have been very disappointing.
a. A decision was taken that in 2022 the Strollers will not actively contact other clubs for fixtures ,and the club will rather be a social club.
b. New and current members and players cannot expect to just show up and play games. They need to understand that to arrange games, preparing the grounds for a game and keeping the club going takes commitment and involvement from all members.
c. In 2023, if we can get a full committee again, commitment and involvement from the young players we will actively look for games again.
7. Additional: John Youngs suggested a meeting with CRIG to discuss storage of our kit at the club during this sabbatical period, and possibly a few dates to practise. John will reach out to Steve and ask for a contact at CRIG for this meeting.

Good evening all Strollers, past and present!

Earlier this year on the occasion of hosting our 25th anniversary celebrations, we had anticipated taking the opportunity to honour Colin Wall with a few words of appreciation.

You see, after perusing through the Strollers records when they arrived at my home I realised that after John Youngs, Colin has spent the most years on the Strollers committee and playing for the team than any other member on record!

It was only last year when he stepped down from the various rolls he has played within the Strollers community, going back as far as 1999. Colin, correct me if I’m wrong- I couldn’t find meeting minutes between the conception of the club in November 1995, and therefore can’t be certain when you started!

Speaking personally, I’ve enjoyed being part of the Strollers in the last 7 years since Anton and I returned to Strasbourg. Certainly, Colin and Margaret have been iconic members to the club, welcoming us for our first Strasbourg BBQ that month we arrived, with the assumption that Anton’s place in the cricket club was welcome.

While Colin’s first sports passion may be football, he has always given excellent form on the cricket field, noted in his pretty amazing averages in the scorebook and match reports and despite his many years of playing cricket, he certainly looks like any modern day cricketer with his unconventional appearance. (I love that you wear Doc Martens as much as I do).

For the many years of keeping the finances and running after players for subs, we thank you Colin.

For the hours put in organising AGM’s and opening season bbq’s, for the opportunities to practise indoors and also in more recently for being available to train young French scholars at Lucie Berger how to play the game, your years with the Strollers needs to be honoured.

Thank you for the many, many years of time you have dedicated.

"Thanks a lot to Anton, Gaenor and the committee for organising this specially commissioned painting, which I was going to be presented with at the 25th anniversary dinner in March.

As we’ve just got it framed and it’s clear the club members won’t be sitting down together to mark that occasion any time soon, I thought I would give my acceptance speech here !

It was an honor and a privilege to serve on the committee for so long. When Nick Lynam one of the founder members left Strasbourg many many years ago he said to me “you better keep this cricket club going” or probably it was more like “you better bloody keep this cricket club going”. Along with all the other committee members over the years we did that and so I’ll pass that message on (you choose which version)to the current committee and players.

Some of us reminisced during the lockdown on the many interesting experiences we had both on and off the field (mostly off!) particularly on our away trips to Milan, Luxembourg and Montbard. There are too many to list here but those experiences as a club make up some of my fondest memories of my time in Strasbourg.

I’m still in Strasbourg and will continue to support the club, maybe turn up for the odd practice and who knows even play once or twice. There’s talk of a strollers legends/veterans/old-timers (whatever you want to call us !) game next summer and I’ll be definitely up for that.
