Many people think the Wasted Watts Tracker is only designed for pro riders.

We completely disagree.

Every cyclist loses power through aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance, drivetrain friction, and many other real-world factors, whether you ride at 20, 25, or 30 km/h.

The goal of the Wasted Watts Tracker is simple:
help riders understand where energy is being lost, so they can reduce those losses and ride faster.

Because what gets measured gets improved.

You don’t need to be a WorldTour rider to benefit from better efficiency on the bike.

Position, tire pressure, equipment choices, aerodynamics, pacing, everything has an impact. And now, these impacts can finally be measured directly on the road.

The Wasted Watts Tracker is not only for specialists.
It’s for every cyclist who wants to become faster and more efficient.

What happens when a WorldTour performance team tests the Wasted Watts Tracker?

During this session, Victor Scholler from Groupama-FDJ came to evaluate our technology and especially the precision of the Wasted Watts Tracker in real-world conditions.

The initial objective was also to test our RTK GPS technology, which will be featured in a dedicated upcoming video. But in this reel, we focused on the tracker itself.

To validate the system, Victor performed two baseline tests and obtained exactly the same result, down to the watt. This level of repeatability highlights the precision and consistency of the Wasted Watts Tracker, even in outdoor riding conditions.

One of the key aspects that impressed the Groupama-FDJ team was the ability to visualize and compare aerodynamic data in near real time directly while riding.

Beyond the data itself, one of the biggest surprises was the simplicity of the setup and the ease of use of the system. Having feedback from a WorldTour performance environment like Groupama-FDJ is extremely valuable for us as we continue developing the Wasted Watts ecosystem.

More to come soon on the RTK GPS technology.

For your information, the Wasted Watts Tracker is now available for preorder. You can join our VIP community to follow the project closely and get early access to future updates.

One of the most common questions we receive is:
What is the aerodynamic drag penalty of the Wasted Watts Tracker itself?

The rear module sits behind the rider, in an area already covered by the body. In practice, this means the aerodynamic penalty is essentially zero, and it may even slightly improve airflow in some situations.

As for the front module, it was specifically designed with a very low frontal area and an aerodynamic shape.

We performed several real-world tests with our previous system and were not able to measure any meaningful aerodynamic difference.

Today, we estimate that the aerodynamic cost of riding with the front module is below 1 watt at 45 km/h.

The goal of the Wasted Watts Tracker is not to add drag.
It is to help riders understand where watts are actually being lost, and how to reduce them.

Why does the Wasted Watts Tracker use an RTK GPS mounted at the rear of the bike?

Because precision matters.

Unlike a standard bike computer GPS, the Wasted Watts Tracker uses a centimetric-level RTK GPS system capable of measuring elevation and positioning with extreme accuracy.

To achieve this level of precision, the GPS needs maximum satellite visibility. That’s why the module is positioned at the rear of the bike, placing it at the front would cause the rider’s body to block part of the satellite signal and reduce accuracy.

The system operates with multiple GPS precision modes, including a fixed RTK mode capable of delivering true centimetric positioning.

This accuracy is essential for the Wasted Watts calculations:
it allows the system to precisely correct elevation changes, analyze speed variations, and compute real-world efficiency directly on the road.

The result is not only highly accurate Wasted Watts data, but also an extremely clean and precise .fit GPS trace for post-ride analysis.

Real-world testing requires real-world precision.

How quickly can you compare two riding positions in real-world conditions?

With the Wasted Watts Tracker lap mode, the answer is simple: around 30 seconds.
In this test, we compared a comfortable non-aero position with a more aggressive aero position at 35 km/h.

Result:
233 Wasted Watts in the non-aero position.
202 Wasted Watts in the aero position.

That’s a gain of around 31 watts just by changing position.
No wind tunnel.
No complex out-and-back testing.
No heavy protocol.
Just a road, a target speed, and real-world data.

Using centimetric RTK GPS accuracy, precise speed analysis, and airflow measurements, the Wasted Watts Tracker allows riders to evaluate aerodynamic efficiency directly on the road with near real-time feedback.

Performance is not only about producing power.
It’s about wasting less of it.

We already knew that drafting has a huge impact on cycling performance. What we didn’t necessarily have before were precise live measurements in real riding conditions.
With the Wasted Watts Tracker, you can instantly see the aerodynamic impact of moving in or out of the wheel of another rider.

In this example, the losses change by almost 100 Watts in just a few seconds.
But beyond the precision of the Wasted Watts system itself, what’s really impressive here is the responsiveness of the live mode. The feedback is almost instantaneous.

You can literally see variations by:

* moving slightly on the bike,
* lifting a hand,
* getting overtaken by a truck,
* or simply finding shelter from the wind.

This creates a real “wow” effect while helping riders better understand where energy is actually being lost.

Draft vs wind. Same rider. Real data.

How many watts can you actually save by sitting in the draft?

With the Wasted Watts Tracker, we measured the aerodynamic impact of drafting directly on the road.

Same rider, same conditions, continuously switching from being in the wind to riding in the slipstream.

The system captures changes almost in real time, with a short delay of around 5 seconds, allowing us to reliably quantify how many Wasted Watts are saved when moving into the draft.

No wind tunnel. No simulation. Just real-world data.

The result? A clear and measurable drop in Wasted Watts when riding in the wheel.

This is what aerodynamic efficiency looks like in motion.

2 positions. Same rider. Same gear. Real data.

How much does your position really impact your aerodynamic efficiency?

Using the Wasted Watts Tracker, we conducted a controlled field test comparing two different riding positions, same rider, same gear, same target speed.

To validate the reliability of the protocol, we first performed two baseline runs, with only a 1-watt difference between them. This extremely low variation highlights the precision of the system and the robustness of the data collected.

Thanks to this level of accuracy, we are able to detect meaningful differences between positions in real-world conditions, not in a lab, but directly on the road.

All environmental factors are continuously monitored and accounted for by the algorithm, even as conditions evolve during the test.

In just a few minutes, the Wasted Watts Tracker allows for highly precise comparisons between setups.

The result? Clear and measurable differences in Wasted Watts depending on your position.

What feels fast isn’t always fast, data brings clarity.

Field testing with .scotson from the .

A rider used to advanced aerodynamic protocols, both in wind tunnels and in real-world testing with Bike Speed Lab, Callum operates in an environment where measurement precision is critical.

In this video, he tests the Wasted Watts Tracker, an approach focused on the direct measurement of energy losses in real conditions.

The concept is simple:
not just measuring power produced, but quantifying what is actually lost : aerodynamics, rolling resistance, and friction.

The video also highlights the core technology:
– Raw mode with near real-time feedback (~7 seconds)
– Sensitivity to wind and environmental variations
– Energy balance-based calculations

Initial feedback is positive, especially regarding the system’s ability to deliver fast, consistent, and actionable data, even in open-road conditions.

Real-world testing with .rdc

After the first discovery, it’s time to test.
The goal here: evaluate data reliability and system sensitivity in real conditions.

Right from the start, the results stand out:
– 1 watt difference between two baselines
– 0.001 CdA difference
despite strong wind gusts.

A level of consistency that surprised Mathias, who is used to wind tunnel protocols.

Second test: a very practical case.
Comparing a jacket open vs jacket closed.

Result:
8 watts difference.

A significant gap, measured instantly, showing how even small details can have a real impact on performance.

Beyond the numbers, it’s the overall experience that stands out: clear, fast, and directly actionable data.
