We all know that drafting saves energy.
The real question is: how much?
Until now, accurately measuring the aerodynamic benefit of a slipstream required complex testing protocols, simulations, or wind tunnel sessions.
With the Wasted Watts Tracker, it is now possible to visualize these effects directly on the road, from your own bike, and almost in real time (with a delay of around 7 seconds).
In this test, we ride behind a Citroën Ami and repeatedly switch between riding in the draft and riding in the wind.
Every time the rider moves into the slipstream, Wasted Watts drop dramatically. As soon as he moves back into the wind, they immediately rise again.
The result is clear: the aerodynamic benefit can represent well over 100 watts at 45 km/h.
This video is not about proving that drafting works. We already knew that. The goal is to show that, for the first time, these effects can be measured directly while riding.
By making energy losses visible, the Wasted Watts Tracker helps riders understand where their watts are going and identify opportunities to ride faster, more efficiently, and for longer.
