Steel Wheelers We go up the Saleve each Wednesday evening, See you there?

27/10/2025

I am delighted to let you know that there is planned a non-cycling get together which will revolve around a cycling based pub quiz (in English) on Sunday 16 November 2025 from 19:00 in the basement of Mr Pickwicks pub, 80 Rue de Lausanne, Geneva.

It should be a great evening to catch up with both new and old cycling acquaintances from the region. Friends and partners are also invited.

If you wish to attend please let me know as soon as possible as numbers are limited.

There is a 10CHF fee to cover the room booking. Thanks - Alfie

Big congratulations to Steel Wheeler Nima Javaheri smashing the multi-Everesting World Record by climbing 38,703m in almost 114 hours whilst covering a distance of 848km and going up and down the Croisette via Le Coin a total of 57 times. After many months of absence due to curfew at 7pm, it was great to get on the Salève again, even if the weather looked at times it wasn't going to cooperate fully.

It should be great for a ride up the Salève this week. When leaving Geneva at 17:30 it is anticipated to be a cool 7 deg C and round about freezing at the top so lots of warm clothes will need to be taken. During the afternoon it will clear up and the chance of precipitation will remain low - under 10%. Winds will be light and from the south. Sunset is at 5:16 so lights will be needed until March 2020. A reasonably sized moon will be visible as the cloud clears.

The bar/restaurant at the top (http://www.lobservatoire.fr/) is expected to be OPEN this week.

As always a free beer is still on offer for any newbie who joins and hopefully this will be redeemed by one of the group regulars.

Meet at 17:30 outside the COFCO/ Old Addax Petroleum building rear entrance (Salève end) on 101 Route de Malagnou (Note I won't be there this week) or 18:15 at Le Coin for a 18:30 departure up from Le Coin.

The sign up sheet can be found here (https://doodle.com/poll/re7kqnatrt8fq8q9).

Any queries please let me know.

It should be great for a ride up the Salève this week. When leaving Geneva at 17:30 it is anticipated to be a pleasant 18 deg C and about 16 deg C at the top. During the afternoon there will be an increase in could cover which increases the risk of precipitation to a low 20%. Winds will be light and variable. Sunset is at 18:38 so the ride up will start in daylight but lights should probably be used for the whole of the ride. No moon will be visible this week.

The bar/restaurant at the top (http://www.lobservatoire.fr/) is expected to be OPEN this week.
