Happy Swiss National Day 🇨🇭

On August 1st, Switzerland celebrates the founding of the Swiss Confederation, which dates back to 1291, when three Alpine cantons swore an oath of alliance, laying the foundation for the Switzerland we know today.

Today the Swiss will be celebrating their day eating rösti, cheese and chocolate.

Our current groups with Julien, Alex, Becki and Tom will be lucky enough to join in the festivities.

It goes without saying that the mountains are our favourite thing about Switzerland (we rarely say no to the rösti, cheese and chocolate though 😉).

Alex and his team are out on the Ultimate Tour du Mont Blanc.

Our Ultimate TMB takes you well beyond the standard route and onto the wilder, higher trails that most trekkers never get to explore. Over remote mountain passes with amazing glacier views, ridge-line paths where it’s just you, the peaks and the odd ibex for company!

We complete the full TMB circuit but with carefully chosen detours that swap the busier valley sections for quieter, more dramatic terrain that’s truly off the beaten track.

Gideon’s group are out on the Tour des Combins. His daily updates are making us happy.

“Kids were in a hurry, pushing the poor parents to speed up...they didn't want to miss the dogs at the Grand Saint Bernard. The excellent coffee in Hotel Swiss raised our heart beat, which was even raised more during the bus ride towards the pass. Escaped the rain, enjoyed the museum and hey, what a great rooms over here! Still got time to prepare tomorrow's pub quiz.”

Hommage à la Vache des Alpes

Let’s take a moment to celebrate a true alpine icon, the mountain cow of the French Alps!

Why we love them:

Naturally eco-friendly grazers that help manage mountain ecosystems.

They produce rich, high-quality milk used in Beaufort, Reblochon, Tomme, and more 🧀

They gracefully navigate steep mountain slopes like four-legged mountaineers

They’re the heart of local traditions like the désalpe (the festive descent from the mountain pastures)

Last but not least, they’re friendly giants that sometimes want a little ear scratch. This lady wasn’t moving without one.

What a difference a week makes! Last week we had a heatwave; the sun hats, sun gloves and even electrolytes made heavy appearances.

The mountains do love a bit of drama.

This is your gentle reminder that our packing list isn't just for fun, it's for moments like this. Boots? Non-negotiable. Layers? Essential. That waterproof jacket you nearly left behind? Take it.

We promise it’s all on there for a reason. Even if that reason is four seasons in 48 hours.
