This summer we are piloting Touch Rugby for kids at a number of age groups for Wicklow RFC's minis. This will take place after the current Rugby Union season finishes, on Tuesday evenings starting on May 10 between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm. Touch Rugby originated in Australia and is similar to the rugby the kids have been learning throughout the season but doesn't involve contact. Due to the non-contac
t nature of Touch, the focus is on handling skills, running lines and evasion, and communication. This will help address the quick thinking and reaction time that makes playing rugby hard to grasp. We are starting with the following age groups: Under 8s and Under 10s boys, and Under 10s and Under 12s girls. These age groups have been chosen because because some of the coaches at these levels are already playing Touch. If there are older or younger siblings than the age groups mentioned, we may be able to accommodate them depending on the level of interest. For children who are already members of Wicklow RFC, Touch training will be free. For non-members there will be a charge per session. Essentially this is a no cost sporting activity for the kids over the summer. Important for the Parents:
For the parents, if you like what you see your kids doing, we will also have an adult game running on Tuesday evenings, also from May 10. This game runs directly after the kids' training. We will also encourage as many parents as possible to help with the coaching as we would ideally like to be 1 coach to max 7 kids, this will benefit the kids more and speed up their understand and ability. Adults play a social game of Touch which is suitable for all levels and abilities, male and female. This is a great way to keep fit in a fun and social atmosphere. Newcomers are always welcome and we provide coaching to get you started with the basics. Again, members of Wicklow RFC can join in for free and there is a €5 charge for non members.
