Who’s ready for some too-fun tufa climbing? We are going to Kalymnos! 🇬🇷

August 3rd - 14th, ages 14-18.

Home to over 4000 limestone routes, climbing in Kalymnos spans from technical vertical walls to steep tufa lines. This mini-mecca has views of the Aegean Sea from almost any angle, making it a beautiful location to climb on world-class lines. In other words, a climber’s paradise!

When we aren’t climbing, we will spend our rest days swimming, snorkeling, and exploring nearby historical locations like Pothia.

Interested in securing a spot? Head on over to our website to register! We can’t wait to climb with you this summer 🫶.

We’re going to Bow Valley, Canada! 🇨🇦🌲

June 21st - July 2nd, ages 14-18

Bow Valley, Alberta boasts not only a gorgeous natural setting, but a density of spectacular, varied crags. Whether it be the overhanging limestone pockets of Grassi Lakes (can you believe it all used to be a coral reef?) or the idyllic, sought-after walls at Cougar Canyon (home to the historic Planet X Wall!) this region is a climber’s paradise.

Some thoughts from one of our mentors, : “Climbing in Bow Valley is a delight. Growing up, it was one of the best parts of my summers. While challenging, the variability of climbing style used to (and still does) blow my mind. It’s not often that you can visit so many unique crags in one place. The rocks is bullet-proof, and the natural setting is breathtaking. If you’re lucky, you may even sneak over to Lake Louise to climb on some of that iconic quartzite next to one of North America’s most eye-catching glacial lakes!”

To secure your spot, head over to our website for registration. This is one you won’t want to miss 🤩!

We’re going to Rifle, CO! 🌟🧗‍♀️

As one of North America’s premiere summer climbing destinations, there is no shortage of stellar sport climbs, especially in 5.12-5.13 range. If you aren’t already convinced, check out what alpha mentor .harmanos has to say about Rifle:

“Climbing in Rifle is unique and varied, navigating blocky features with technique, strength, endurance, and some knee bar skills.

“Swimming in the stream to beat the midday heat, meals around the campfire, rest days exploring aspen groves, and immaculate star gazing are just the icing on the cake for all that this concentrated climbers’ oasis has to offer!”

Only 4 spots left! Registration is live on our website. Sign up now to secure your place!

See you there- let’s go climbing!

Meet our lovely logistics coordinator, Annie!! When asked about her role with alpha, she shared the following with us:

“I’m Annie and I love long walks on the beach (really, I do). You’ll find me with my two fur babies at my side (I’ve had my girl Karli almost 16 years!) and a coffee in hand. Besides dogs and coffee (does a girl need much more?) I also love to trail run, backcountry ski, garden, crossword, and surf! I’ve been climbing consistently since moving out to Washington 10 years ago, and my perfect day is a long moderate multi pitch climb exploring high into the Alpine (nothing compares to the French Alps!) my partner and I are currently doing a year of van life, soaking up time together doing what we love - life is too short ❤️

“Aaron Hjelt created a community that has changed the way I view climbing. I came into the alpha family later in the game, and immediately felt like I was with my people. I’ve never laughed so hard with a group of not only kids, but total strangers! This same group of people who stepped in to hold the deepest sorrow imaginable. I feel so grateful to Aaron for bringing us together.

“I can’t express how utterly STOKED I am to help continue summers of climbing, dancing, cooking, singing, swimming, friendship bracelet making, flower picking, and MORE CLIMBING with the greatest humans (thanks Aaron ❤️)”

If you want to come hang with Annie this summer, be sure to register for a trip before spaces run out. Those friendship bracelets won’t make themselves!

Meet our communications admin, Abbey! When asked about her time with alpha, she included the following:

“I first met Aaron in 2011 when I started competitive climbing, and went on one of alpha’s first trips to The Fins, Idaho in 2017. Ever since then, alpha has become a routine part of my summers. In 2018 I attended a trip to Greece, and in the years since I’ve had the honor of mentoring trips in Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota.

“Outside of climbing, I dedicate a lot of energy toward getting my master’s degree in writing, while also trying (semi-successfully) to ski, surf, drink lots of coffee, and attempt to keep a host of house plants alive. I am beyond stoked to add a role with alpha to the mix, and will try my best to keep in touch with many of you while also updating our socials!

“It warms my heart to work with such wonderful people as we seek to keep Aaron’s legacy and teachings alive. Let’s get organized! Let’s get dancing! Let’s go climbing!”

We are back with another alpha memory! Thanks for sharing this gem 🫶 :

“In the summer of 2023 I went on an alpha trip to Greece with five amazing other girls and Aaron. That trip we had many loud moments. The chatter of the seven of us plus Gus at the dinner table, Carla and I shrieking from the cold water of the hose we used to shower in the backyard, singing all the way back up to the car with Indy. But what I most cherish from that trip were the moments of silence. Sitting on the beach waiting for the moon to peak over the edge of a mountain. Listening to the fire we made for our fishbacue.

“There was a particular moment that was my favorite. On this day we split up and went to two different crags. I was with Aaron, Carla, and Maya. We were all resting and the sun was setting. It was one of those moments where there is a break in conversation but the silence doesn’t feel heavy. No one felt pressure to fill it and we sat in silence looking out at the water and the sky, just breathing. I don’t know how long we stayed like that but it was at least 20 or 30 minutes. We ended up being pretty rushed to clean the routes and get out because we had spent so much time enjoying that moment. Aaron always made the little moments special, simple things exciting, empty plates full (oops thats backwards ). I miss him so much. I continue to search for moments like those and think of him when I find them.”

Everyone, meet Alice! Read below to learn some more about our new treasurer:

“My name is Alice, I’ve been climbing for 12 years and first started with alpha during my 2021 gap year to Greece. I have since mentored on trips to Mallorca, South Dakota, and Wyoming. I can’t put into words the vast impact that alpha has had on my life, these trips have helped me to learn and grow on so many levels, and have shaped the person I am today.

“I am currently finishing up my undergrad in geology, and apart from climbing I love to spend time in the mountains, surf, bake, do art, and hangout with friends.
Alongside this group of amazing people, I am so excited and grateful to have the opportunity to continue the mission of alpha and keep Aaron’s passion and legacy alive. As treasurer I will be in charge of budgeting, trip expenses, and bank accounts that are necessary to have everything run smoothly.

“I can’t wait to be apart of this journey with all of you, let’s get organized and go climbing!”

Introducing our spectacular Vice President, Cole! When A brief introduction from Cole to you:

My name is Cole, and I’m thrilled to serve as VP of alpha climbing alongside some of my closest friends and favorite climbing partners. I started climbing with the Bozeman Climbing Team around 2011 and joined alpha climbing as a young athlete on trips to Wyoming, South Dakota, France, Spain, and South Africa. These climbing trips gave me a lifelong love for climbing, taught me skills that are essential to how I live my adult life, and made me face myself and the world around me in a way that catalyzed serious growth.

Mentoring with alpha has been an incredible opportunity to facilitate these kinds of experiences that meant so much to me for the next generations of climbers. As VP, I’ll be supporting alpha with marketing, getting organized, and maintaining our guiding principles as we grow into a new chapter. It’s truly an honor to keep going this special thing that Aaron started, and I can’t wait to climb with you all soon!
