Breath is at the heart of yoga and yoga therapy — yet it is rarely taught with the depth and precision it deserves.
Our course Breathe Well offers a comprehensive, structured approach to understanding and working with the breath — for your own practice and for those you teach or support.
The curriculum covers:
— Observation and assessment of the breath as it is
— Regulating the breathing cycle with skill and care
— Physical patterns of breathing and their therapeutic uses: abdominal, lower rib, upper chest, and back breathing
— Managing effort: reducing it for ease, increasing it for arousal
— Breath and body movement — principles and applications
— Lengthening, deepening, and suspending the breath safely
— Cultivating inhalation and exhalation through movement, position, touch, visualisation, sound, and sequencing
— Breathing ratios, stepped breathing, and ujjāyī in āsana and prāṇāyāma
— Safety, contraindications, and decision pathways
Traditional frameworks (prāṇa, deśa, kāla, saṁkhyā, dīrgha, sūkṣma; sama-vṛtti, viṣama-vṛtti, vairambha) are studied alongside modern science — functional anatomy of the respiratory system, physiology of respiration, visceral regulation, interoception, vagal tone, and heart rate variability.
This course includes 40 hours of material with live interactive sessions. Recordings available for one year.
This is a core requirement of the Svastha Yoga Therapy Program.
